Your opportunity:
The Division of Teaching Labs (DTL) supports the delivery of laboratory courses and practicalsby providing laboratory infrastructure, experimental needs, and technical expertise to departments within the Faculty of Medicine. DTL focuses on providing sustainable, effective and responsive service to the departments, and ensuring a positive, productive and safe learning and work environment. We advance youth STEM initiatives through collaborative and in-house outreach and educational programming.
As the Laboratory and Administrative Assistant you will be part of a dynamic team providing technical and administrative support for the delivery of various teaching laboratory activities. Drawing upon your solid administrative experience and communication skills, you will serve in a front line capacity communicating with various stakeholders, providing orientation to others on departmental procedures, supporting with permit applications and the summer program online registration process. You will also support the delivery of labs through setup and clean up of lab activities and by ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory teaching facilities and support spaces.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing routine samples for research projects and/or experiments- Determining material requirements for lab set up based on timetables and requisitions information, and preparing, assembling and setting-up materials, equipment and supplies as required
- Maintaining inventory of glass and dishware, workstations, chemicals and/or apparatus within the lab and troubleshooting routine equipment issues during lab sessions
- Processing online program registrations and organizing registration data
- Following rules and procedural instructions when removing and disposing waste from work area
- Collecting information for permit applications and renewals, and updating and revising records and procedures manuals
- Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
- Providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.- Minimum two years experience providing relevant laboratory and administrative support
- Demonstrated experience supporting labs, including setup of equipment and reagent preparation for a various types of lab experiments (molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, etc.).
- Experience providing front line support and customer service (via phone, email and in-person)
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, experience applying lab safety and protocol procedures and experience writing/revising a variety of laboratory standard operating procedures (biosafety, chemical safety, equipment and technical procedures, emergency procedures, infrastructure)
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, O365), including advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables, etc.)
- Strong organizational, analytical and record-keeping skills
- Must be a solid team player with excellent interpersonal Skills and exceptional oral and written English communication skills
- Must have good judgment, initiative, flexibility and attention to detail
- Experience managing multiple priorities and processes with tight deadline under minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated judgement, tact and discretion
- Physical ability to lift objects of up to 25kg
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience with database systems (e.g. Access) and online registration systems- Familiarity with University of Toronto policies and procedures

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 07 - $53,222 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $68,063. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
