Position Summary
The City of Regina’s Communications & Engagement department is seeking a Strategic Communications Advisor to help share the City’s story and educate residents on a wide variety of projects, programs, and services. This role will lead a communications team assigned to a specific portfolio.
The Strategic Communications Advisor will join the more than 2,700 City of Regina employees dedicated to a shared vision of Regina as Canada's most vibrant, inclusive, attractive, sustainable community, where people live in harmony and thrive in opportunity. The successful candidate will be an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional with strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of strategic and innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and superior writing, leadership, and confidence under pressure. Duties & Responsibilities
Guiding a team of communications professionals to ensure they have the tools and knowledge they need to provide communications strategies and tactics to City departments
Establishing strong relationships and collaborative at the department divisional and corporate level that result in a comprehensive understanding of communications goals and expected outcomes
Transforming information into exciting and useful messages and strategically choosing the best channels to reach the right audiences
Collaboration at the branch level to coordinate strategic planning message development omnichannel tactic deployment public engagement media relations and event planning initiatives
Developing and executing strategic communication policies procedures bestpractices and working with direct reports as well as a variety of City operating areas to ensure consistent and coordinated communications approaches
Facilitating inhouse document review preparation editing and rewriting as required to ensure consistent messagingbranding of promotional and other materials
Managing workplans and budgets and identifying resource requirements to ensure the effective delivery of highquality communications strategies and tactics
Coaching mentoring and performance management in conjunction with the Manager Strategic Communications
Measuring and reporting on effectiveness of communications strategies and recommending opportunities for continuous improvement
Participating in various corporate committees and initiatives to identify how strategic communications can be deployed effectively in support of corporate goals
Leading change using positive and collaborative methods with the ability to influence and break down silos within the department and across the organization
Proactively identifying issues and providing support in issues management key messaging and crisis communications for the organization
Contributing to a positive corporate image through areas including media management design standards and corporate messaging
Ensuring that all messaging reflects and reinforces the Citys brand identity story and personality in order to build relationships and trust between the City of Regina and its residents
Ensuring the Citys communications efforts are respectful of the diversity of Reginas communities and reflect a sophisticated understanding of how different groups communities individuals and stakeholders engage with municipal governments Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
This role requires exceptional communications and interpersonal skills as well as proven success in complex problem-solving. This role also requires keen analytical skills as it is responsible for undertaking research, understanding complicated business needs, problem solving, identifying emerging trends, analyzing, and reporting on results.
The position requires the ability to oversee others while also taking direct responsibility for communications projects as required. Acute attention to detail is essential while working within tight deadlines. Education & Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically obtained through completion of a university degree in Communications, Business Administration, Journalism, English or related field
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in Communications or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience .
Experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role is considered an asset.
