Job Title: Project Design Engineer - Packaging Equipment

About the opportunity:
The Project Design Engineer provides advanced technical advice and support in the area(s) of packaging equipment to manufacturing plants across Canada on engineering solutions, services, and project development for execution at the plant level.
- Identify and provide advice on the most appropriate technology, equipment, and methodology for improvements to manufacturing operations based on the incumbents’ areas of expertise and the objectives of the division.
- Define project scope, targets, and deliverables for significant projects in their area of expertise. Design and prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates (includes material and Labour). This includes performing the applicable research for project design requirements and calculations. Gain appropriate approvals from management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the team to review Application, Layouts, Performance, and overall packing line design.
- Ensure all project specifications and implementations comply with company project management procedures and with all governing practices, codes, and regulations.
- Upon approval of the project, communicate project expectations to project management team at the plant and keep stakeholders informed of the status. Support Project Engineering team at the plant level with advice and guidance where necessary, through to completion.
- Prepare and evaluate contracts and agreements. Proactively monitor changes within the project scope, identify potential barriers, and devise contingency plans.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, reliability, cost, and customer service and reduce equipment failures to preserve asset value.
- Maintain awareness to modern technologies as they relate to efficiency improvements, cost reductions and workplace safety and product quality enhancements.
- Promote excellence in all activities, including the functional groups, to support safe operation, optimal quality, improved reliability and productivity, waste reduction and cost improvement.
- Where applicable, safely manage external human resources such as vendors and contractors by providing appropriate safety training and awareness.
What you will bring:
- B.Sc. in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical) or college diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Robotics & Automation, Mechatronics or Equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience performing a similar role is required.
- Experience in change, troubleshoot, and develop processes, such as fluid packaging, FFS machines, case/tray packers, flow wrappers, CIP systems, etc. is an asset.
- Ability to design, develop, and build solutions using AutoCAD, Solid works, and/or 3D Printing.
- Some experience in an engineering, electrical/mechanical or technical capacity preferably in an automated manufacturing environment, familiarity with multi axis robots
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Eager to learn and share knowledge with proven ability to work in a team environment with all levels of personnel in the organization
- Understanding of Dairy processes
- Understanding of utilities and energy risk management
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Good communicator, listener, and presenter
- Knowledge of AutoCAD
- Ability to adapt to changing culture/environments
- Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally (on occasion)
