Job Description
The Dietary Aide is an integral part of the service team at Heritage House, supporting the provision of a quality living environment for our residents in the area of food and dining services.
Under the direction of the Executive Chef and/or Administrator/Designate is responsible for dietary and serving duties in the dining room and assisting the Chef/Cook in delegated duties and will:
▪ Respect choices and preferences of residents in meal service to enhance life quality of our residents in accordance with the Benchmark L.I.F.E. Standard™ philosophy.
▪ Assist the Executive Chef in the daily operation of food service to ensure that a high quality of service to residents and guests is maintained.
▪ Follow FoodSafe™ practices and company policies and procedures, and assist with preparation, presentation, delivery and service of meals.
▪ Follow protocols for setting up dining room for elegant service, special occasions, and always appropriate to the meal being served.
▪ Develop and maintain harmonious relationships with residents and all levels of staff.
▪ Assist in preparation and service of special event services.
▪ Ensure that the dining room is cleaned after each meal, set up appropriately and ready for the next meal service. Includes dining room cleaning and washing dishes.
▪ Ensure that tables are set correctly.
▪ Familiar and efficient with operating all kitchen equipment pertinent to the job.
▪ Ensure meals are provided and served in an efficient and accurate manner; strive to make mealtimes for residents an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
▪ Assist the Chef/Cook as required. Specific dietary shifts have specific duties which may include direct assistance to the Chef in meal preparation, etc.
▪ Practice and maintain established standards for proper cleanliness and sanitation as required by the Health Department and Heritage House.
▪ Establish and maintain an atmosphere conducive to pleasant dining by creating an environment which maintains the happiness, self-respect, dignity and physical safety of each resident.
▪ Ensure dress code is adhered to. Dietary staff is required to wear the provided uniforms.
▪ Ensure that dishes are washed correctly and use of proper racks, etc. is necessary to ensure dishes are properly cleaned and to reduce breakage.
Qualifications
▪ Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.
▪ Previous experience in a waiter / waitress position preferred.
▪ Basic knowledge of how to use standard commercial equipment is favourable.
▪ An aptitude towards detail.
▪ Food Service Worker Certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
▪ Good planning and organizational skills.
▪ Must be reliable, mature, responsible and punctual.
▪ Must be multi-task oriented.
▪ Adhere to the philosophy, values, mission/vision, policy and procedures of Benchmark Lifestyles/Heritage House.
▪ Comfortable working alone or in a team environment; self-directed, able to plan, organize and deliver dining services with minimal supervision.
▪ WHMIS™ Certification, First Aide Certificate an asset.
▪ FoodSafe™ required.
▪ Motivational skills.
▪ Ability to communicate well in written and oral English.
▪ Must be neat and clean in appearance and adhere to dress code standards.
▪ Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check
