The complete product line includes shower dispensers, toilet caddies, bathroom squeegees, shower seats, wall-mount mirrors, shower caddies and other unique bathroom/shower organizers. Better Living is a private corporation and distributes to over 50 countries throughout the world. Its Head Office and North American Distribution Centre is based in Vaughan, Ontario.
The Role:
Are you passionate about transforming ideas into visually appealing and functional products? Are you skilled in both industrial and graphic design? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are seeking a talented Industrial Designer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Vice-President of Operations & Marketing, this person will assist with the execution of Better Living’s overall design and brand development strategy. Please note, this role requires to be 100% on-site. There is no remote or hybrid.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Graphic Design:
- Interact directly with the product development, marketing, and sales teams to identify, evaluate and recommend design improvements and ideas.
- Manage the design and creation of product packaging, graphics and miscellaneous design projects as required.
- Produce print mechanicals, mostly for but not limited to art for consumer packaging and point of purchase displays. This will include production die lines, print art, logos, product usage instructions and specifications.
- Modify existing package designs to produce secondary versions for international markets.
- Help to implement new corporate packaging design direction for all packaged products.
- Help to build and maintain a packaging standards manual for internal use as well as for production quality control purposes.
- Create packaging mock-ups for sales presentations and to prove structural design and effectiveness of art content.
- Work with the team to ensure designs are signed off and ready for implementation including the creation of packing specifications and instructions for overseas factories.
- Help maintain the packaging portfolio.
- Conduct industry trend analysis as well as competitor research to inform and inspire corporate product development initiatives.
- Provide the utmost support to all stakeholders, ensuring that initiatives are on schedule and completed within required timelines
- Manage and track design projects and record project activity.
- Provide support on ad-hoc projects and assist with special tasks as needed.
Product / Industrial Design:
- Manage the design and creation of product designs and miscellaneous design projects as required.
- Produce technical documentation for new projects.
- Modify existing designs to produce secondary versions for international markets or asimprovements to mature products.
- Help to build and maintain our product specification template for internal use as well as for production quality control purposes.
- Create renderings and 3D visual presentations for sales presentations and for internal review.
- Work with the team to ensure designs are signed off and ready for implementation including the creation of product specifications for overseas factories.
- Help maintain the product portfolio.
- Conduct industry trend analysis as well as competitor research to inform and inspire corporate product development initiatives.
- Provide the utmost support to all stakeholders, ensuring that initiatives are on schedule and completed within required timelines.
- Manage and track design projects and record project activity.
- Create design briefs in cooperation with design leadership.
- Provide support on ad-hoc projects and assist with special tasks as needed.
- Research trends, consumer preferences, marketplaces and build sound knowledge of the industry and competitive intelligence expertise.
- Conduct competitive shops both on-line and in-store to compare how other products on the market are positioned with the goal of properly positioning our products in the marketplace.
- Remain current with industry/competitor trends and provide guidance for the creation of new products and enhancements to existing.
- Monitor product dissatisfaction or QC trends and convert issues into product improvements.
- Help to define a vision for our products through market and product analysis and customer demands.
- Contribute to product development ideas and assist in their realization by providing primary analysis including product pricing, competitive insights, benchmarking and positioning.
- Help to monitor, set and control ever changing development priorities according to launch dates, tradeshows and in stock dates.
- Participate in product meetings, create presentations, conduct product demos and conduct hands-on product training sessions for employees, sales reps or customers.
About You:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related field
- Proven experience as an Industrial and Graphic Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing your design projects
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks and rendering software, such as KeyShot
- Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
- Knowledge of design principles, including aesthetics, ergonomics, and user-centered design
- Ability to create compelling 3D renderings, prototypes, and graphic designs
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of visual aesthetics and design innovation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
