The Learning Design and Innovations Department at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites applications for an Educational Developer in a one-year limited-term contract, reporting to the departmental chair and the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. This will be a faculty position that includes professional role and service to the university, profession and/or community. The Educational Developer will work with faculty to strengthen their ability to deliver courses in with a hybrid face to face and virtual environment.

Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide expertise in teaching and learning pedagogy and scholarship to support faculty in instructional design and delivery of education in hybrid learning environments that support student engagement and success.
General Summary of Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities: Supporting and providing leadership to faculty on a wide range of teaching and learning matters; evaluating teaching and learning strategies, collaborating, problem solving, and researching with TRU faculty, administrators, and teaching assistants; and designing and coordinating relevant functions, activities, events, and resources.
Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting faculty through designing, promoting, and providing programming, resources, and professional development opportunities about pedagogy, curriculum planning and development, and assessment in varied contexts, considering principles of universal design for learning; equity, diversity, and inclusion; and decolonization and Indigenization in both digital and face to face modalities.
- Supporting faculty and programs through an appreciative inquiry approach to program development and review.
- Contributing to and collaborating on development and implementation of a faculty mentorship program.
- Promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning, and generally advocating for scholarly teaching.
- Acting as a resource in emerging areas in post-secondary teaching and learning, including documenting professional practice, conference presentations and professional portfolios.
- Collaboratively designing, promoting, and providing professional development opportunities for faculty and staff related to mentorship and hybrid learning.
- Participating on relevant committees where teaching and learning are relevant.
- Assisting in ensuring currency of TRU programming and compliance with Senate and University policies.
- Engaging in scholarly approaches to teaching and learning practices is expected and supported.
QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise and excellence in teaching, experience in curriculum development at the degree level, and a strong knowledge of current practices and trends in the field. Instructional design and project coordination expertise / experiences are desirable. Previous experience with formal mentorship programs is an asset. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to the goals of the institution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful candidate will have teaching and leadership experience; effective written and verbal communication; demonstrate a high level of skill working remotely using technology; and experience working with undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD/EdD or requisite terminal degree; Master's degree with significant relevant experience will be considered.
- Five (5) years of directly related experience including three (3) years' experience as an effective and scholarly instructor at the post-secondary undergraduate level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrable ability to lead faculty and programs through curriculum planning and development processes for institutional and outside accreditation purposes, such as curriculum mapping and outcomes creating and assessment, at the course, program, and institutional levels.
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in adult education, particularly with respect to innovative pedagogies, learning outcomes and STEM/ applied learning, online learning, and high impact practices in post-secondary teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated commitment to furthering principles of EDI, UDL, decolonization, and Indigenization in post-secondary teaching and learning.
- Demonstrable ability to effectively build and support curriculum and faculty development programs working in face-to-face, digital, and distance learning environments.
- Demonstrable ability to create and implement enhanced teaching and learning and curriculum development opportunities.
- Demonstrable ability to effectively lead, coordinate and collaborate in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary contexts.
- Demonstrable potential to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
