One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.
We are currently seeking a .50 FTE Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC), who as a valuable member of the Community Health Centre team will provide services within the RN-EC scope of practice at the Thunder Bay site. There is a strong practice emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, and education and community partnerships.
The position has the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BScN in nursing from a recognized University.
- Certificate in the extended class from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or recent graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program.
- Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current nursing procedures, nursing assessment, physical assessment and treatment measures.
- Experience in provision of mental health and addiction services.
- Experience with homeless/vulnerable populations.
- Three to five years of recent Registered Nursing experience in a combination of remote rural, hospital and community settings and/or public health.
- Clinical experience in mental health and addiction experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.
- Demonstrated capacity with establishing effective working relationships with key partners.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Flexibility in work hours is required and ability to work at different sites.
- Awareness of northern community health care needs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, non-insured).
- Experience and knowledge working with the Centre’s priority populations.
- Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle.
