Unionville Home Society (UHS) is a not-for-profit charitable organization located in Unionville that has provided leadership in service to seniors since 1967. Unionville Home Society and its affiliate corporations operate a long-term care home, seniors’ housing, a seniors’ active living center, an adult day program, and geriatric outreach services. The campus of care is a vibrant environment and our vision is to develop a progressive community where older adults thrive; aging well and living better.
JOB SUMMARY
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for programming that removes barriers to independent, meaningful, social contact for residents and works to maintain or improve the quality of life and overall health for residents by planning meaningful leisure activities as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Support the mission and vision and demonstrates the values of the Unionville Home Society (UHS)
· Function within relevant legislation, codes, acts, policies, procedures and standards.
· Develop, organize, implement and evaluate restorative care/therapeutic/group activities incorporating the five domains: physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual
· Conduct assessment, develop, implement and evaluate individual resident recreational care plans and interventions, complete MDS 2.0 assessments as required
· Develop, organize and implement cultural programs to meet the resident cultural beliefs
· Provide restorative care and therapeutic programs to encourage residents to retain their connections to the sights, sounds and changes with family members.
· Involve and integrate residents and substitute decision makers in programming
· Assist with meal and snack for residents during regular meal times and special events
· Other related duties as assigned and consistent with the Collective Agreement
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Graduate of a college or university degree program as Recreation Therapist or equivalent
· CPR certification an asset
· Member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario or Activity Professionals of Ontario an asset
· Experience in program development and group facilitation
Experience developing adaptations to recreation activities appropriate to various disabilities
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Proficiency in computers related to position – Microsoft Office, Internet, Scheduling Software
· Organizational skills to manage timetables and responsibilities
· Ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy
· Empathetic attitude and desire to contribute towards the well-being of seniors
· Written and verbal communication skills related to the position
· Good interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently and with others including team members, residents, families, volunteers and other employees
A valid Vulnerable-Sector Police Record Check and a valid 2-step Mantoux (TB) skin Test and a minimum of three doses of approved COVID-19 vaccination record are all required as part of the recruitment process.

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Weekends as needed
