We provide expertise in highway and bridge maintenance, slope stabilization, and environmental remediation. We are proud to be formally recognized with industry and ministerial awards for innovation and environmental stewardship, while managing long-term contracts within both provincial and federal jurisdictions.
We are looking to expand our highway maintenance operations areas and are preparing a response to an RFP announced by the Provincial Government for a highway maintenance contract in the Edmonton area (CMAs 506/509/510).
As such, LaPrairie Works is calling for applications to fill the role of Highway Maintenance-Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be hired should LaPrairie Works be successful in procuring the contract for this region.
The Highway Maintenance-Operations Manager is responsible for managing LaPrairie Works Inc's contract with the Alberta Department of Transportation, ensuring compliance with the terms, conditions and specifications. The Highway Maintenance-Operations Manager will work closely with the Highway Maintenance Superintendent and their Operations team, Alberta Transportation Representatives and the public at large, while managing the entire contract cycle in accordance with federal, provincial, and municipal laws and Company policies and procedures. The Highway Maintenance-Operations Manager will be the main point of contact for all issues related to the company performance in the region.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for LaPrairie Works Operational, HSE, Quality performance and contract specification compliance management
- Be the first point of contact for all Contract-related issues
- Actively participate in collaborative partnering and foster mutual understanding with Alberta Transportation representatives
- Build and maintain positive relationships with local municipalities, business partners, vendors and the general public
- Work with the Alberta Transportation Operations Manager to resolve complex issues escalated from the Highway Maintenance Superintendent
- Prepare reports as required and participate in the regular performance review process with Alberta Transportation Representatives
- Guide & direct the Highway Maintenance Superintendent for the management of contract operations applicable to our highway maintenance yards, the supervisors and crews, operating from those yards, to carry out summer/winter Highway Maintenance work or other highway/bridge/construction activities as contracted
- Ensure that Highway Maintenance Work and workforce are effectively planned, scheduled, managed, and operating in accordance with, daily/weekly/monthly/annual corporate budgets, customer work orders and the related schedules
- Explore, evaluate and price extra work opportunities in order to supplement our regular Highway Maintenance Work to improve revenues for this region while achieving cost effective, profitable results overall
- Implement proactive measures are implemented to assist the supervisory group with ongoing assessments and monitoring of employee performance issues as they relate to LaPrairie Works policies, operational targets, contract specifications and the MOU
- Facilitate the instruction and training of employees; including in-house safety training courses, ACSA modules and Train the Trainer, employee orientations and onboarding, and ensure the Environmental, Health and Safety program and the Environmental Management Plans are understood and properly applied
- Maintain a ‘Personal Daily Log’ containing concise records of necessary schedules, reports, inspections and investigations
- Research and recommend best practices and contract process improvements and operational innovations
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a leadership role at an Operations or Contract Manager level in the highway maintenance or civil construction industry
- Excellent communication skills (oral & written)
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation, communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities capable of handling pressure and challenges
- Ability to build and maintain lasting and positive relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and customers
- Willingness to innovate and successfully test new strategies and Continuous Improvements, and while incorporating them into existing processes in an organized and effective manner
- Comprehensive understanding of local, territorial, and federal highway maintenance and civil construction regulations
- Solid understanding of the nuances within contract management processes
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Project Software)
