Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Working as a part of the Child Life Department, under the supervision of the Manager and the Children's Hospital Television (CHTV) Coordinator/Child Life Specialist, the Child Life Assistant performs a variety of supportive Child Life functions for the care and comfort of patients and performs routine tasks to maintain the daily routine of CHTV. Must adhere to principles of Family Centred Care, and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
- Previous experience working with children in a healthcare setting required.
- Child Life experience preferred.
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Early Childhood Educator Certificate or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience as recognized by the Centre.
- The Child Life Assistant is responsible for acquiring appropriate knowledge of medical terms specific to their programming.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Basic audio/visual skills required.
- Must be comfortable performing on TV.
- Competence in the areas of growth and development, play and family dynamics.
- Must have a basic understanding of the effects of hospitalization on children and families.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Must adhere to the principles of family centered care.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to complete repetitive lifting, bending and twisting; must be able to work with children from infants to teens.
