Position Description
The Acute Care Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (until December 1, 2023) Program Assistant to work on the Crisis Critical Care Treatment Unit 7 (formerly Women’s Inpatient Unit). Reporting to the Manager, you will contribute to the organization and optimal function of the Women’s inpatient Unit under the direction of the clinical staff and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu as a member of the interprofessional team. You will contribute to and participate in the assessment of designated clients and provide them direct client care. You will also accompany clients for medical clearance and for any other transfers as deemed necessary. In addition to communicating both verbally and in writing about behavioural observations, assessments and client's response to care interventions, the incumbent will assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static security elements of the program and service. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at the Queen Street Site and are 12-hour shifts.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Secondary School diploma and/or Special Courses and 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in a health care related field. The successful candidate will possess a Personal Care Worker Certificate or possess or be in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health care discipline. CPR is considered an asset. Ability to work with diverse clients and staff is required. The successful applicant will possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-professional team environment. Besides being reliable, co-operative and client-focused you will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. In addition, you will possess effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills, both verbal and written. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. You will have the ability to work with clients from diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds, teams and stakeholders and demonstrate high levels of sensitivity and diplomacy. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Please Note: This full-time, temporary (until December 1, 2023) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.
Salary Range: $21.17 - $26.10 per hour
