Urban and Community Systems (UCS) is seeking skilled and motivated individuals who aspire to work on complex, city-shaping projects and initiatives. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will work in close coordination and partnership with Business Units within Infrastructure Services, as well as other corporate partners and Business Units. Your primary responsibility will be managing project procurement, design, and delivery in support of the Downtown Strategy and Plan, Main Streets, Transit Oriented Development, and community-level projects such as supporting development of the 5A network, as well as managing the ongoing projects along Stoney Trail. You will be working in a team environment focused on achieving great city-building outcomes, where critical and creative thinking is paramount, and working in complex, non standard urban environments is the norm. Primary duties include:
- Work within an integrated UCS team to manage consultants and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, on budget, and in alignment with the overall masterplan and vision of the project.
- Manage and administer contracts to ensure they meet project specifications; review and approve change orders and contract extensions as required.
- Work within an integrated UCS team to analyze project risks and market conditions, review available procurement alternatives, recommend contractor and consultant selection methods, prepare documents, and assist in selection.
- Develop and sustain strategic and working relationships with internal and external customers, community and business organizations, contributors, and partners to facilitate excellence in service and capital project delivery.
- Attend and support community and public meetings, open houses, customer sessions as needed to support project design and delivery.
- Manage to Project Close-Out phase by ensuring the submission of as-builts, record drawings, warranties and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
- A degree in Civil Engineering, or a related Engineering field, registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.
- At least 4 years of post-professional engineer experience are required.
- Knowledge of project or design engineering standards within a government or consulting environment is required.
- Experience in construction and contract management is considered an asset.
- You have effective communication and presentation skills, project management skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a high-pressure environment.
- Success in this position requires: strong analytical, business planning and organizational effectiveness skills; an ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives; ability to balance technical requirements with non-technical competing priorities; and a desire to build a great city for everyone.
