Job Description
We seek a full-time Project Assistant to assist with a culturally based project for Indigenous Youth between 9 and 14. Collaborations with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, mental health professionals, and community organizations and leaders will help the youth and their families learn how their culture and teachings can be applied in everyday life. Learning positive coping skills and effective and respectful communication will become skills they will learn to be mentally well and prevent family violence. The project will be implemented in-person with small and large groups for cultural activities, and programming in schools on the west coast of Newfoundland. Work hours consist of daytime, evenings, overnights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, prepare, and carry out activities online and in person with Youth.
- Acquire resources, equipment, and information.
- Assist in breaking project activities into doable actions and set timeframes.
- Collaborate with Elders and volunteers to develop activities and set schedules for youth activities.
- Analyze risks and opportunities every quarter and as needed.
- Closely monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise.
- Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants.
- Work with the Executive Director and Financial Director to use tools to monitor working hours, plans, and expenditures.
- Maintain project documentation, plans, and reports.
- Ensure that documents regarding working with Youth are created, permission slips, etc.
- Additional roles and responsibilities will be required.
Skills:
- Experience working with and engaging youth.
- Outgoing and friendly.
- Team player and willing to take directions.
- Able to provide programming to youth.
- Work independently as required.
- Experience in project management from conception to delivery.
- An ability to prepare and interpret schedules and step-by-step action plans.
- Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time management.
- Strong client communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with risk management.
- Strong hands-on experience with all Microsoft Office products, and other digital programs.
- Comfortable with traditional ceremonies.
- A proven track record when working with Youth and Elders.
- Clear certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check.
Employment Details:
- Full-time until March 31, 2025.
- Position is mainly located in Stephenville with regional locations.
- Vehicle required.
- Travel allowances for out-of-town travel.
