Job Description Terrestrial Biologist (Project Manager)Environmental ScienceMarkham or Mississauga, ONPinchin Ltd. is seeking a motivated Terrestrial Biologist (Project Manager) to join the growing Environmental Science team in either of our Markham or Mississauga office. The successful candidate will report to the Team Leader and contribute to the growth and facilitate the trajectory of the group. Remote or flexible work arrangements will also be considered.The Terrestrial Biologist will be expected to design and direct technical work; prepare disciplinary and coordinate multidisciplinary proposals; manage budgets and schedules; be responsible for report quality and technical training; and assist with strategic business development. The successful candidate will support Pinchin's land development services group and work on a variety of biological/ecological projects for a number of clients mainly in the real estate, commercial, industrial and infrastructure development sectors. Biological work will focus on natural environment baseline and monitoring studies for all aspects of land development including due diligence, approval/permitting, and development construction projects.A Day in the life of Project Manager at Pinchin:Lead in the planning, designing and implementation of biological field studies and technical reports.Manage field staff, train new or junior staff, and oversee collection of data.Coordinate background search and review of available sources including aerial photographs, natural heritage features, wildlife atlases, site plans and other supporting documents for potential environmental opportunities and constraints.Lead or perform biological field investigations including botanical inventories, Ecological Land Classification, plant and wildlife surveys, targeted Species at Risk surveys, and wetland delineations based on established protocols and guidelines.Review or prepare high quality scientific and technical letters and reports.Coordinate a variety of field and office tasks requiring scientific research, field studies, data recording, entry and management, analysis, and reporting.Consult and liaise with regulatory agencies for the request of background information, review of terms of references, review or staking of environmental studies/features, and response to agency review comments.Oversee the acquisition of environmental permits/approvals and development of protection and mitigation measures according to environmental legislation, policies and guidelines.Coordinate site inspections and monitoring of environmental features, Species at Risk and habitats, and/or erosion and sediment control measures.Assist Team Leader with writing proposals, scheduling fieldwork, coaching junior staff, and delivering consistent service to existing and new clients; andLiaise with other project managers and technical specialists, including environmental scientists, engineers, GIS/CADD technologists and other disciplines.What you bring to the Pinchin team:Completion of a post-secondary diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or related field;At least 4-7 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting and/or agency work, with a minimum 1-2 years of project management and coordination experience in consulting considered an asset.Applied experience and skills in the identification of Ontario flora and fauna (vascular plants, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, insects, and/or fish), identification of Species at Risk and habitats, and delineation of habitat types.Certification in Ecological Land Classification for Southern Ontario, Certification in the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, ISA certified Arborist, and Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control are considered assets.Familiarity with environmental management, planning and permitting processes and direct experience working with federal, provincial and municipal regulations and approvals.Practical knowledge of environmental legislation and policies including the Provincial Policy Statement, Conservation Authorities Act, Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Fisheries Act and Invasive Species Act.Highly organized with ability to coordinate multiple projects within time constraints and budget limitations.Excellent written and verbal communications skills; andProficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.What’s in it for you:Of course, we offer competitive salaries and great benefits, but what makes Pinchin stand out from the crowd?
