We do so through exhibitions, events, and programming, and by preserving and maintaining our
Japanese Canadian archives, collection, and library for research, education, and interpretation.
Job summary: We are seeking a new receptionist who is skilled in customer service and offers a genuine care for delivery high quality hospitality. They will greet visitors as they enter the building, direct them accordingly, and be an informed source of visitor information. The Receptionist will be friendly and outgoing. Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Receptionist is responsible for the daily administration and delivery of reception desk services at Nikkei Place, including admission to the Nikkei National Museum, Museum Shop sales, facility access for renters and program partners, answering and redirecting incoming/outgoing communications, processing payments, and other administrative and special event duties, as needed.
Organizational status: Reports to the Community Engagement Coordinator.
Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours per week.
Shifts: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (30 minute unpaid lunch break).
Occasional shifts during special events, including weekends and holidays, additional shifts or schedule changes as needed.
CLERICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
● Opening and closing the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre building.
● Greet visitors, provide them with a warm welcome upon arrival, and refers visitors to the appropriate staff.
● Answers and screens incoming telephone calls and email, and relay messages.
● Provide information about NNMCC programs, rentals, upcoming events, donations, memberships, volunteering, exhibitions, and Japanese Canadian community initiatives.
● Receives incoming mail and processes all outgoing mail/packages.
● Sells tickets/manages registration for NNMCC programs and events and assists at special events as needed.
● Museum gallery admission, and museum shop sales.
● Carries out general administrative duties such as invoicing and filing.
● Assists with the payments for program and other fees as instructed.
● Facilitates key sign-out and access to rooms.
● Maintain a clean and organized reception desk, ensuring it reflects a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
● Assist with administrative tasks for NNMCC membership such as data entry.
● Receives and record payments for membership, programs, bookings, donations, etc.
● Train, schedule and supervise visitor information volunteers.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
● Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
● Fluent in English and intermediate Japanese.
● Able to set and manage priorities and work effectively.
● Computer literate including MS Office, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
● Effective teamwork, time management and organizational skills.
● Ability to exercise good judgment and supervise volunteers.
● Tactful, able to manage confidential information.
Compensation: $18.00-$20.00 per hour. 2-weeks (10 days) vacation. Plus NNMCC Health Benefit package following successful completion of 3-months probationary period.
