Position: Community Mental Health and Addictions Forensic Social Worker
(Social Worker 19)
FTE: Full-Time Permanent

Salary: $35.97 - $44.99 Per Hour
Start Date/Term Length: Commencing Immediatley
About The Position:
The incumbent is required to provide a broad range of screening/assessment/therapeutic interventions with primarily forensic adults, children and parents, either individually, family or in groups, for a broad range of conditions. The incumbent is expected to operate with autonomy and independence and have an advanced understanding of mental health and Addiction problems and their treatment. Assessment and treatment are implemented independently, and the need for consultation and/or second opinion is the responsibility of the incumbent.
This Position has a focus on treatment of persons with mental disorder who are in conflict with the law. The position requires special knowledge of court ordered and/or forensic assessment and liaison with the Criminal Code Review Board and/or the Justice system.
This position reports to the Mental Health Clinical Supervisor of the outreach team at McGill Community Mental Health.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
· Conduct comprehensive assessments to facilitate treatment planning, and provision of mental health and Addiction treatment incorporating client, forensic treatment team, family and other professional=s information;
· Interpret and support the implementation of the recommendations of specialized forensic assessment reports in a manner consistent with the conditions of the Criminal Code Review Board;
· Provide relevant clinical information and recommendations to the Court or Criminal Code Review Board as required by law;
· Use substantive knowledge of numerous areas including but not limited to, mental illness, cognitive functioning, medical co-morbidity, and substance abuse, analyze and interpret the information to formulate clinical impressions and develop treatment plans;
· Utilize and apply extensive knowledge of principles of prevention, case management , psycho social rehabilitation, and apply the best and emerging modes of therapy such as brief, narrative, cognitive, behavioral, supportive, family and group therapy, discern which approaches are best suited to the situation, clinical needs and range of conditions/ illnesses;
· Utilize independent professional judgment, analyze the presenting problem, set appropriate goals, select treatment options, provide relevant interventions, monitor feedback, and adjust as required;
· Respond to and deal with emergency calls or walk-in clients in a crisis situation or a potential violent situation;
· Provide expert consultation within a multi-disciplinary team to other services within the Region (i.e. hospital and in-patient treatment teams) and to various agencies in the community with particular emphasis on the Justice system;
· Maintain and protect confidential records and case reporting as part of the case management process;
· Formulate reports and updates as requested by the board and/or legal counsel;
· Provide a variety of professional and educational services that contribute to the overall goal of promoting the awareness of and support for issues related to people with mental illness and mental health particularly in the area of forensic services; and,
· Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school and considerable years of professional post-graduate experience in a mental health setting;
· Must be registered with the PEI Social Work Registration Board in good standing;
· Experience in adult, child, family, and group therapy;
· Working knowledge of the DSM 5, Mental Health Act, and crisis intervention in a mental health setting are required;
· Valid driver=s license and reliable vehicle are required;
· Must have a good work and attendance record;
· Must have very good communication skills both orally and written; and,
· Knowledge of forensic and/or Court ordered assessment/treatment.
Other:
· Experience on interdisciplinary teams and community development would be considered assets;
· Proficiency in both French and English would be an asset; and,
· Completion of ISM, NVCI, and ASIST training would be considered assets;
