About the role
Bold is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead initiatives and grow our technical teams while keeping company goals in mind. The successful candidate has a passion for championing communication, encouraging teamwork, and developing leaders across multiple app teams. You’ll be the rock for our engineering department bringing your wealth of technical knowledge to the table. Ultimately, you will encourage an innovative environment where teams can do their best work, putting emphasis on giving them the tools they need to succeed.
What you’ll do:
- Work with the Product Team to understand the vision, strategy, and develop the product roadmap
- Share strategic context and communicate priorities to delivery teams
- Help development teams to continuously ship value to our customers and remove roadblocks in delivery
- Be accountable for how we deliver software solutions including quality, reliability, and performance
- High focus on individual development including setting expectations, enabling responsibility, and providing accountability to unleash individuals to succeed through clear communication and transparency
- Complete regular 1:1s and check ins contributing to our culture of constructive and continuous feedback
- Up level and grow your team, both individually and collectively. Identify opportunities for individuals to gain knowledge and participate in activities to grow Bold as a whole
- Contribute to our lean software development practices and techniques through hands-on training and coaching
- Work with leaders and individual contributors to drive technical initiatives including architecture and design reviews
- Collaborate with the People Operations Team on recruitment strategies and participating in attracting, interviewing, and hiring developers
- Develop and execute onboarding and education programs to accelerate and maximize the effectiveness of new hires
- Help communicate key changes, concepts, or big picture thinking across the Engineering Team
- Participate and manage team’s on-call rotations and ensure any production alerts or incidents are tracked and resolved with long-term solutions
- Any and all management, coordination, facilitation or leadership responsibilities as assigned by the CTO
What we’re looking for:
- Developers, architects, or software engineers who have experience managing and leading teams
- A leader who is not afraid to speak up, provide feedback and hold teams accountable
- Experience building and growing larger teams through continuous recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training
- Experience working within e-commerce, especially checkout products (desired, but not required)
- Expert understanding of continuous delivery, agile processes, SDLC, kanban, cultures, and teams
- Experience with or interest in learning PHP, Laravel, Go, Javascript, and React
- 5+ years experience as a technical leader, manager, or advisor
- Experience coaching a team of developers, including code reviews and pair programming
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and continuous integration (CI)
