We are currently looking for Full Time Clinical Anesthesia Assistants to join our General Operating Room team at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital located in Grande Prairie, Northern Alberta. The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is a 250-bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OBGYN, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry as well as radiation therapy services. There is a total of six operating rooms daily, with the capacity to expand to 10 operating rooms, after-hours call, acute pain service and pre-admission clinics. The City of Grande Prairie is an economically strong and culturally diverse large urban centre, with a population of 75,820 and catchment area population of about 250,000. Grande Prairie provides a wide choice of recreation, education, shopping and entertainment opportunities. Grande Prairie is a full-service urban centre with a Multiplex Recreational Centre, a Community College, numerous cultural events, alpine & cross-country skiing, mountain biking, camping and more. The Grande Prairie Regional Airport connects the region to the Calgary and Edmonton international airports with daily scheduled flights provided by Air Canada and WestJet. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As a Full Time, Clinical Anesthesia Assistants, you will work under the direction of the Anesthesiologist to provide assistance in the pre-assessment, induction, maintenance and recovery phases of anaesthesia, including observing of physiological responses of patients during surgery. There are a total of six operating rooms daily, with the capacity to expand to 10 operating rooms, after-hours call, acute pain service and pre-admission clinics. Role: Have comprehensive knowledge of current anesthesia assistant theory and practice. Document procedures performed on patients by Clinical Anesthetic Assistant. Participate on clinical committees, anesthesiology research and special projects. Maintain, operate and calibrate anesthesiology and monitoring equipment for regular use including anesthetic machines, breathing circuits, ventilators, scavenging devices, intubation equipment, fiberoptic bronchoscopes, monitoring equipment, infusion devices, ultrasound machines and blood gas machines. Assist the anesthesiologist with the trial use and evaluation of new equipment Prepare patients for surgery and perform pre-operative assessments as directed. Insert or assist with the insertion of devices such as nasogastric tubes, IV’s, intra-arterial lines, PIC lines, Pulmonary Artery catheters and Central Venous catheters. Assist with or perform airway management, including insertion of laryngeal mask airways, intubations, fiberoptic intubations and mask ventilation. Assist in the positioning of patients under the direction of the anesthesiologist. Adjust the anesthetic (i.e.: ventilation, temperature control devices etc.) as directed by the anesthesiologist. Assess and discuss management plan of patients in Pre-admission Clinic. Collaborate effectively with all team members. Use critical thinking skills.

Required Qualifications:This is an alternate physician provider role in which the successful candidate will work with a limited medical license issued from the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Minimum of 3 years clinical experience (Anesthesia) in Operating Room or Critical Care setting. Registration with Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP). Current ACLS & NRP.
