The Manager, Financial Accounting is responsible for the month-end general ledger (G/L) reporting process, including the implementation and maintenance of accounting policies and codification by which the database of accounting information is maintained and summarized for reporting purposes. The Manager, Financial Accounting also supports the project team for on-going financial system implementations (i.e. SAP ECC FICO technical upgrade to S/4 HANA, Blackline, Winshuttle).
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Financial Accounting.
Interprets, monitors and implements all established financial accounting policy throughout the Corporation.
Ensures consistency in accounting and reporting by providing financial accounting direction to those involved in corporate and field accounting.
Establishes and documents information requirements of corporate management for financial accounting data. Defines requirements and develops and implements financial accounting systems.
Functionally manages the timely production of monthly financial reporting required by and for operating management at all levels; initiates and approves change requests in response to special requests, or required report changes.
Ensures consistent and reliable financial management accounting and sound business discipline by developing and implementing database coding standards and data integrity controls, and performing quarterly audit activities. Manages and approves all related database amendments, certifies records and ensures the integrity and timeliness of all data recorded on general ledger and follows up correction of all invalid coding by responsible departments.
Establishes, manages and maintains the responsibility accounting coding disciplines in support of the financial chart of accounts, including accounts, responsibility centre, activity and project codes.
Monitors corporate performance relative to all aspects of financial accounting, identifies irregularities and takes remedial action as appropriate.
Develops and publishes instructions, forms, reports and schedules which inform and educate management and staff nationally in the use and understanding of financial accounting disciplines.
Remains up to date with professional practices and statutory requirements as these affect all financial aspects of the pension fund and plan.
Manages the team in a manner that demonstrates corporate values and leadership behaviours. Provides coaching and development opportunities to team members in order to facilitate continued growth and professional development.
Education
Completed post-secondary education in a related field, (commerce, finance, economics, accounting, business administration).
Enrollment in specific designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions in Finance (including Accounting and Payroll).
Experience
2 to 5 years of relevant functional experience.
2 or more years’ experience in a supervisory role.
Other Candidate Requirements
Relevant professional designation (CPA, (CA, CMA) or CGA).
Proficient computer skills and competent with SAP ECC (FICO), Blackline, Microsoft Office programs and other job relevant programs.
ERP Implementation (SAP ECC, S/4HANA) experience considered an asset
Excellent team building and leadership skills experience.
Sound organizational, analytical, judgment and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving.
Solid interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
1+ years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.
