The Department of Economic Development is responsible for creating policies that enable broad-based economic growth and prosperity in the Province. The Department’s work focuses on policy, research and development, targeted program initiatives, and building and maintaining strategic partnerships in four key areas: growing Nova Scotia’s strategic sectors; enabling increased productivity for all sectors and businesses across the province; investing in new ideas and entrepreneurship to grow the economy; and ensuring all communities experience growth and prosperity.
The Department works in partnership with its Crown Corporation Invest Nova Scotia; to implement activities across four main areas of business development including: 1) start-up; 2) scale-up; 3) export; and 4) innovation growth and investment. In addition, the department supports the Minister’s statutory responsibilities, in partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality, for the Halifax Convention Centre, as well as the Peggy’s Cove Commission.
The Senior Executive Administrative Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating a broad range of activities which ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Executive Office. The position is responsible for the liaising, developing and maintaining relationships, planning, and coordination of activities in support of the executive team’s needs. The position gathers and analyzes information, assesses options, and makes recommendations to senior leaders as appropriate. The work of the Coordinator contributes to successful implementation and positive perception of Government programs and services.
The Senior Executive Administrative Coordinator is required to demonstrate leadership, interpersonal skills, independent judgement and decision-making skills that are necessary to support the Office of the Minister/Deputy Minister/Associate Deputy Minister. Using sound priority and time management skills, you will ensure appropriate and timely responses to all communication both verbal and written, scheduling and facilitating appointments, meetings, workload planning, and coordinating work with other administrative assistants. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of government practices and policies in order to efficiently address routine matters such as office enquiries, correspondence, and requests at the senior administrative level on behalf of the Executive Team.
As the successful candidate, you have completed a recognized office administration program and are a seasoned professional with several years of senior level administrative experience.
In addition to the above, you exhibit excellent judgement, are receptive to feedback and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines. You possess strong teamwork and collaboration skills. You excel in communication which is necessary when liaising with external/internal stakeholders and the public. You have a high degree of professionalism, tact, diplomacy and consistently exercise discretion and confidentiality in managing correspondence and information as well as the ability to maintain composure in stressful situations. Lastly, you are a self starter who proactively initiates process improvements to ensure work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Strong attention to detail is critical in this role with a particular focus on proofreading, and keeping records organized and filed appropriately. Understanding of the political and bureaucratic significance of issues and documents dealt with by the department, and the ability to exercise sound judgement in alerting the Executive Team to critical information will also be key in this role. The incumbent will be proficient with MS Office and Outlook.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, interview(s), and reference checks.
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Equivalencies which may be considered include but are not limited to several years of progressive experience in an administrative role leading to the support of senior officials.

Pay Grade: EC 07
Salary Range: $2,211.68 - $2,764.61 Bi-Weekly
