Job Description
The Cummings Centre is presently hiring Art Educators/Art Therapists to provide art sessions for our Cummings to You (C2U) program in the community. This may include many facets of art, such as Acrylic Painting, Drawing, Watercolour, Photography, Ceramics, and / or Mixed Media. These sessions will be presented to a population of seniors living in autonomous, assisted living and long-term care residences. Our seniors are passionate about socializing while completing expressive art projects. This supports their interest in exploring their creativity, potentially learning new techniques, and building their skills. Duties
Create weekly art projects based on the interests and skills of the participants/organization you are supporting.
Prepare a list of supplies regularly for the organization
Ability to pivot art projects and have Plan B ready when the participants need a change of pace.
Animate and teach art in a fun, engaging and beneficial way to keep the interest and focus of the participants.
Adhere to a regular weekly schedule of art sessions which will be pre-determined
Inform supervisor of any class issues, feedback, updates or other important information
Communicate with your supervisor if there are any schedule changes.
Education, Knowledge and Skills
Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Art Education or Art Therapy is an asset.
Experience Teaching Visual Arts or facilitating Art programs.
Bilingual Spoken and Written
Min. 2-3 years relevant experience
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Friendly and outgoing, easily adapts and able to prioritize.
Respectful, responsible, compassionate, and caring attitude.
Experience working with adults 50+ an asset.
Experience working with a vulnerable population who may have cognitive and/or physical challenges is an asset.
