MerGen was formally established on September 1, 2019. Our Partners were both called circa 1979 and previously both operated their own practices for decades in advance of merging forces.
- Kevin Weeks is our Managing Partner and has established himself in the legal and entrepreneurial spheres for his versatility, experience and knowledge in diverse industries, specifically in the areas of corporate/commercial, intellectual property, entertainment, and real estate law.
- Colonel John Fletcher "Ret'd" makes up the other half of our partnership and, as a former Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces, he brings a unique approach to law, mentorship and collaborative leadership. John’s practice presently focuses on estate litigation, wills/estate administration and Alberta/BC real estate.

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the organization, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and organizing office documents. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Accounting functions:
- AP: review bookkeeping email and enter invoices and expenses into QBO and Clio where appropriate. Cutting cheques for AP or if requested by team members. Audit all receipts on a determined schedule to ensure accuracy in accounting.
- AR: Maintain precise records of all incoming payments. Contact clients as needed to ensure payment of outstanding invoices. Reconcile any irregularities in receipts AP/AR.
- Bank Deposits/Preparing Supporting documents for the transactions. Applying payments to the bills daily, making sure nothing is missed.
- Perform reconciliations on bank, AR, AP, Credit Card and other accounts as directed.
- Maintain and update existing client and matter data.
- Preparing Draft bills for lawyers’ approval, billing matters, applying Trust Funds to bills, as necessary.
- Pulling financial records on matters when requested by Management/Lawyers or Clients.
- Supporting Real Estate team by cutting cheques on a timely manner (ASAP) to prevent backlog of work on everyone’s part. Preparing supporting documents for BC Real Estate, billing.
- Preparing variety financial reports from CLIO depending on Lawyers request.
- Communication with bank representatives if necessary: issues with Trust account, opening interest bearing accounts etc.
- Collection work: preparing spreadsheet, following up with lawyers, calling clients, maintaining records.
- Checking Bank accounts (Trusts and General) for different kind of purposes.
- Supporting team members on the different kind of requests as needed.
- Other duties and projects as a specified by the Office Manager
- Preparing and maintaining supporting reports and documents for Contractor Lawyer.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $35,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
