GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the incumbent provides customer service to the public by processing a variety of payments, providing general information, directing citizen enquiries, and accepting applications for various municipal functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive and process payment for a variety of municipal services including but not limited to utilities, property taxes, permits, collections and licenses.- Promptly, accurately, and courteously respond to internal and external enquiries, record and deliver messages.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of municipal services and department functions.
- Balance and prepare daily cash deposits.
- Acquire and disseminate to the public a basic understanding of procedures for the various applications and permits.
- Ensure all necessary supplies and inventory (deposit bags, deposit books, receipt books, transit passes, animal licensing tags, etc.) is in stock.
- Adhere to municipal confidentiality policies and cash handling procedures.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Positive attitude and desire to provide exceptional customer service.- Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with a diverse range of people, sometimes in conflict situations.
- Must exercise confidentiality and discretion with client information.
- High degree of attention to detail with the ability to enter and maintain data accurately.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn other municipal software such as SAP, Accela, AS400 and Flexsuite.
- General math and numeracy skills, including demonstrated proficiency handling cash accurately and efficiency.
- Knowledge in the operation of basic office equipment (calculator, cash register, electronic payment system, computer).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain working knowledge of municipal policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.- Two (2) years’ accounting experience or cash handling experience in an office, municipal, or banking environment responsible for processing a variety of payments is required.
- Certificate in Office or Business Administration is considered an asset.
- Previous municipal or banking experience is considered an asset.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
