Job Description

Reporting to the Museum Services Manager, the Programming and Outreach Coordinator conducts tours of the museum's exhibitions and grounds, answer inquiries and provides information concerning exhibits or the museum site. The Programming and Outreach Coordinator will create and implement programs, talks, camps and special events. This position will increase visitation and participation, recruit volunteers, and engage the public through a variety of ways, including storytelling, community outreach, and delivering educational content through workshops and programs.

What you’ll do

· Create and implement a range of talks, tours, camps, programs, school visits and special events for the public according to community and museum interests and needs, while leveraging and contributing to community partnerships.

· Research and develop programming aimed at increasing attendance and improving visitor satisfaction. Align programs with the exhibition schedule and seasonal opportunities.

· Assists other programming and events staff with set up and tear down of programs, large onsite events, and outreach opportunities.

· Works collaboratively with other programming staff and the Museum Services Manager to develop a varied schedule of programs.

· Develop and administer program surveys/feedback

· Identify and plan outreach opportunities at local Dufferin events.

· Activates/engages with community members at outreach events (ex. POW

· WOWs, Fairs, Markets, etc.) and spreads news of the museum’s offerings

· Building community with diverse audiences by sharing MoD site history and Dufferin County histories through storytelling, dialogue, and inquiry;

· Responsible for building connections in the community, including non-for- profits, BIPOC communities, Indigenous Nations, etc.

· Tracks and manages budgets for programming, outreach and events and related projects. Responsible for the purchasing and preparation of programming materials.

· Advise on and contribute to the development of content and editing of training manuals, program guides, education/interpretative materials and other publishing initiatives.

· Coordinate, accept and retain registration and booking information for programs (i.e. booking and invoicing forms, photo release forms, medical/emergency contact forms)

What you’ll bring

· Post-secondary diploma or degree from a recognized college or university, in Education, Theatre Studies, Museum Studies or History.

· Minimum of two years demonstrated experience developing, delivering and evaluating innovative public and educational programming for various demographics.

· Experience working with vulnerable populations, including children and seniors;

· Experience and comfort with public speaking and engagement.

· Previous experience working in museums, education, or galleries.

· A drive and energy for connecting with people and bettering out local community.

· Experience in, or willingness to learn, new educational techniques and methodologies
