JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Intake Counsellor helps connect individuals in need to the services that can assist them in making changes related to their substance use and mental health. You engage in intake, screening, assessment, support planning, and service connection. This position is cross-appointed within our Addictions and Mental Health department, including within our community-based Concurrent Disorders office and residential Withdrawal Management and Treatment Services settings. This role:
- Creates a warm, welcoming, and safe intake experience
- Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop client support and transition plans
- Administers standardized comprehensive, evidence-based screening and assessment tools
- Provides group psychoeducational programming that supports client recovery
- Provides support while waiting for residential treatment and facilitates client transition and community connection post residential stay
- Advocates for clients when necessary and assists them in developing advocacy skills for themselves
- Ensures a safe work environment for staff and clients
Hours of work: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10 am – 6 pm, Thursday 11:30 am – 7:30 pm and Friday 9 am to 5 pm
Available Positions: There is one full time permanent Intake Counsellor position, and one full time temporary Intake Counsellor contract that ends December 16, 2024.
Training: Initial comprehensive training related to all aspects of the role, as well as access to ongoing professional development
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly pay rate: $22.25 to $25.25 plus benefits

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- College Diploma in Social Services
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health clinical settings
- Demonstrated ability to integrate screening and assessment information to identify client strengths and treatment needs
- Current and demonstrated knowledge of integrated services to meet unique needs of individuals with addiction and concurrent disorders
- Proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
- Access to reliable transportation
- Able to manage frequent exposure to vicarious trauma
