SKILL BUILDER PROGRAM FACILITATOR
Trico Centre for Family Wellness is currently hiring skilled and enthusiastic Program Facilitators for our Skill Builder Programs. SKILL BUILDER is an inclusive program series that supports the mental, social, emotional, and physical development of children and youth. Skilled and passionate facilitators deliver programs to children and youth ages 4 – 14 years. Facilitators foster a sense of belonging, help build confidence, provide opportunities to practice skills, encourage independence, and introduce support strategies (based on individual needs and abilities).
We are looking to fill the following Skill Builder Programs:
Scheduled shifts:
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: between 4:15pm - 7:15pm
- Friday: between 1:15pm - 5:45pm
- Saturday and Sunday: between 8:45am – 3:30pm
Program Timelines:
- Fall 1 session: between September 11, 2023 – October 29, 2023
- Fall 2 session: between October 30, 2023 – December 23, 2023
- Winter session: between January 12, 2024 – March 24, 2024
- Spring session: TBA (April – June 2024)
Programs offered weekdays and weekends:
Anxiety Explorers (8-10, 11-13yrs):- Confidence Quest (8-10, 11-13yrs)
- Direction Detectives (6-7, 8-10, 11-13yrs)
- Fine Motor Skill Development (4-5, 6-7, 8-10yrs)
- Friendship Foundations (6-7, 8-10, 11-13yrs)
- Wellness Warriors (6-7, 8-10yrs)
- Surf Smart / Internet Safety (8-10, 11-13yrs)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Services or Social Sciences.
- Students (currently enrolled in a Human Services or Social Sciences program) may be considered based on coursework completed to date, training received, volunteer experience and previous work experience.
- Experience working with children and youth with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges is an asset.
- Trauma-informed and strength-based approach.
- Background knowledge and experience supporting Executive Functioning skills and Self-Regulation strategies a definite asset.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification.
- Clear Police Security Check and Vulnerable Sector Search within last 6 months.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, strong organization, and time management skills.
Performance Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Lead fun and engaging programs that fuel children’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth while ensuring their security and well-being.
- Plan, organize, and deliver weekly lessons based on Skill Builder program description and participant needs (meets age range, developmentally appropriate, utilize range of support strategies).
- Shows care and strength building relationships.
- Regularly check-in with group and individual participants to promote a sense of safety, security, and belonging.
- Brings high energy and a positive attitude.
- Engaged and excited to teach and learn from group.
- Patient and supportive approach while interacting with children and youth.
- Communicates in a calm, clear, and supportive manner.
- Offers effective coaching and is a positive role model when teaching listening skills, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies.
- Explores and implements a variety of support strategies including but not limited to: guides writing of group rules, uses visuals, awareness of transition planning, offers clear / simple instructions, breaks down tasks into small achievable steps, supports new skill development through scaffolding, acts as a positive role model, recognizes teachable moments, offers regular verbal praise, and looks to reinforce positive choices/actions.
- Responsible for program set-up, take-down, ensuring materials are returned and locked up.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- May be required to bend, twist, move and lift items weighing 30 lbs. or greater.
- Works in a noisy environment and with varied sports-related equipment.
- May be required to use various activity-based tools (i.e., sport equipment, glue guns, fine motor manipulatives, cleaning supplies, etc.)
Wage: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
