We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Director, Halton Housing Services who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.
The Director, Halton Housing Services is accountable to the Senior Director, the Director provides direction to all Halton Housing Services and Emergency Supportive Housing programs operated by Wesley in the Halton Region.
The role works with Senior Director Newcomer, Housing and Employment Services to oversee operations for the programs that are aligned with Wesley’s vision, mission values and strategic plan.
This is a non-unionized, permanent, full-time position.
Key Responsibilities:
Overall Program Direction and Oversight
- Provide support and assign work to Managers to ensure the effective, efficient operation of the portfolio within the general policies, contractual obligations of the funders and guidelines of Wesley and best practices for the sector;
- Lead on the implementation of the vision for all programs and services within the portfolio that is aligned with Wesley’s strategic plan and focuses on maintenance and growth as appropriate;
- Support relationship building and stewardship of key funding and community partners including Region of Halton, Support House, Salvation Army – Lighthouse, Halton Housing Help, Links 2 Care, Wellington Community Food Program, and other relevant partners
- Coach and mentor Managers using approaches aligned with the organization’s program of Invest in Our People
- Work closely with the Region of Halton/Funder and other funders to manage funder obligations, reporting needs, and community needs to respond to housing and homelessness issues as they arise
Program Planning, Development and Evaluation
- Oversee the execution of operational plans for the portfolio that aligns with Wesley’s strategic plan and incorporates key metrics for the purposes of monitoring and evaluation
- Coach and support Managers to implement operational plans for their teams and report on progress towards goals;
- Oversee the implementation of department-level policies and work with Managers to execute procedures to manage and mitigate risks to the organization
- Work to mitigate program risk and actively measure program performance against approved goals and provide regular reports to Senior Director;
- Take part in regular program evaluation processes in collaboration with Directors, Managers, and Community Partners where applicable, to evaluate program effectiveness and identify changing and emerging community needs;
Budgets, Finance and Funding
- Work with Managers to monitor approved budget to meet program and financial goals;
- Participate in ongoing audits to ensure appropriate control over purchasing and expenses,
- Provide accurate and timely reports as required;
Human Resources
- Train, coach and mentor Managers through regular supervision using tools and models introduced through Invest in Our People
- Participate in audits to ensure that accurate records are kept and support the management of all personal information in compliance with privacy legislation and organizational policies;
- Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports;
- Participate directly in the hiring of program Managers
- Participate in regular audits to ensure that managers are implementing effective health and safety procedures and monitoring and reporting mechanisms in each program in order to promote and ensure the safety and well-being of staff, clients and volunteers;
Senior Leadership Team
- Participate as a member of the Strategic Operations teams and contribute to organizational programs of work, strategic planning and performance management.
- Provide advice to the Senior Director in terms of best practice, effectiveness, quality and operations related to the program area;
Resources Development
- Lead on working with Managers to provide program information and success stories to Resource Development Department to assist in marketing Wesley to donors;
Other

What you will bring:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience at leadership level in administration and financial management in the not-for-profit or public sector.
- University-level degree in a relevant area of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with a Master of Social Work will be prioritized.
- Experience developing and leading programs that specifically focused on the needs of individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction
- Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of the community and not-for-profit organizations with the ability to connect and work collaboratively with all individuals who are interested in forwarding the organization’s Vision.

- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and COTS databases.
- Ability to handle sensitive information effectively and confidentially.
- Experience in preparing funding proposals and a track record in sourcing new funding streams.
- Comfortable in making presentations to groups of all sizes.
- Able to prioritize and make decisions using solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
