Human Resources Business Partner
Reporting jointly to the Senior Director, Professional Development and Senior Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will be based in our Ottawa office supporting the Ontario region. The HRBP is accountable for supporting the full employee life cycle and HR programming for a portfolio that includes designated business and legal professionals.
We are looking for an experienced HR generalist with a passion for recruitment and a demonstrated ability to coach leaders to support the development of our people. Our core hours of work are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet client needs. We offer a hybrid work arrangement. Travel to our Toronto office may be required from time to time.
A Day In The Life
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing expertise, guidance, coaching, support and follow-up on all Human Resources aspects of a Firm member’s life cycle
- Assisting our Director of Administrative Services and Assistant Director of Student Programs in managing the Firm’s law student program for the Ottawa office, including law student recruitment, student reviews and mentoring as well as providing Student Committee support, coordinating the in-firm interview process, new hire onboarding, educational programming as well as organizing social events
- Supporting our Professional Resource Team on the lateral recruitment process for Ottawa lawyers
- Supporting the People Leaders and teams by understanding their goals and deliverables and resourcing requirements while facilitating growth and development through goal setting, coaching and training, and effectively addressing performance challenges and opportunities
- Identifying and executing on creative and cost-effective staffing strategies to help attract and retain top talent, pivoting as needed and ensuring a positive experience for candidates and hiring managers
- Integrating new Firm members by organizing and facilitating onboarding and orientation activities. In the Ottawa office supporting our Director of Administrative Services with this process
- Reviewing the needs of new hires for client groups and recommending ways to continuously improve their onboarding experience; participating in the creation and maintenance of onboarding materials for all Firm members and ensuring regular touchpoints with new hires and their managers to support their success
- Regularly reviewing the organizational structures, job design and titles and supporting workforce planning through the creation and evolution of roles, career paths, learning journeys and succession plans
- Conducting market research as well as drafting and maintaining job descriptions, and attending Job Evaluation Committee meetings, as required
- Designing and delivering training and information sessions on HR and leadership topics applying standard learning and development principles
- Conducting exit and stay interviews and leading terminations, including identifying relevant issues and making recommendations to address them
- Leveraging our HRIS (UKG) in the execution of responsibilities, as well as running monthly reports for client groups, analyzing data, flagging issues and patterns, and proactively recommending next steps
- Regularly executing on Human Resources governance and risk management strategies and best practices
- Keeping up-to-date on Human Resources trends and best practices that impact thought leadership and continuously seeking out innovative solutions and opportunities to streamline work processes, build best practices, and enhance the way our team delivers services
- Complete individual and team goals and participate in additional projects, as assigned
Must Haves
- Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in area of Human Resources
- CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset
- Bilingual (French)
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an HR Generalist and Talent Acquisition Specialist (preferably with Agency experience)
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant provincial and national employment standards, acts, and regulations
- HRIS experience, preferably UKG
