Who Are We Looking For?FortisAlberta is looking for an HR Business Partner (HRBP) to align our HR initiatives and goals with business needs and objectives. You will support the leaders of FortisAlberta to build and strengthen their teams. You will do this through advisement and coaching in all areas of HR (labour relations, performance management, Collective Agreement interpretation, recruitment, organizational design, legislative compliance etc.). You will also demonstrate intuitive business insight and personal credibility when communicating and managing priorities and initiatives.
Please note this is a twelve (12) month Term position based in Spruce Grove, AB
We are specifically looking for someone with the following abilities:
- Labour Relations – Do you have strong experience working in unionized environments? Can you build effective relationships within our unionized environment, while ensuring we continue to build a high performing culture? Do you have direct and proven experience coaching and supporting leaders through employee issues such as progressive discipline, termination proceedings, safety violations, workplace investigations and performance issues?
- Business Advisement – Can you provide the right business advice to the leaders, at the right time? We do not want a wallflower who will hide in meetings. We want someone who will speak up (nicely and professionally) and help our leaders grow our business. We want a business leader who happens to work in HR, not just an HR leader.
- Compliance – Can you follow the rules, and ensure we adhere to the rules? We are publicly traded and must follow compliance rules associated with being publicly traded. We are unionized and must comply with the Collective Agreement. We must also ensure our decisions comply with any other applicable employment laws (Employment Standards, Labour Code, Human Rights Privacy etc.). Can you ensure we follow those rules?
- Credible Activism – Can you make recommendations to improve our organization and influence without authority?
- Customer Service – Can you provide effective internal customer service to the leaders and employee of our company?
- Diverse HR Experience – HRBPs are the swiss-army-knives of HR. Do you have a diverse blend of HR experience that will help you thrive in this role?
- Self-Motivation – Can you “dive in” to this role and learn it in a short period of time?
Other Qualifications we are looking for:- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business or other related discipline is required;
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources roles, including experience working in a unionized environment is required. Previous experience as an HRBP (or similar position) is preferred;
- CPHR (or CPHR Candidate) is preferred;
- Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry is preferred.
Additional Information- This position reports to the Manager, Employee & Labour Relations and works alongside four other HRBPs.
- This position is for 12 months (to July 2024) to cover a maternity leave.
- This position will be based out of our Spruce Grove office but will include travel within Alberta.
- This position is eligible for hybrid remote work under the FortisAlberta Remote Work Policy.
