Reporting to the Department Head, Medical Imaging and Laboratory Sciences department in the School of Health and Life Science, the position is responsible for instructional, clinical and laboratory support in the overall program delivery in the CLXT programming. The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubrics and assessments tools provide by instructors, to evaluate students in all CLXT disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
Lab Support:
- Assist to maintain lab equipment
- Ensure lab safety
- Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition
- Liaison with other sections or programs when required
- Support educational technologists in procurement, preparation, setup and dismantling lab exercises when required
- Assist with maintaining Standard Operating Procedure and safety manuals when required
Instructional Support:
- Independently deliver in lab technical activities/lessons in a variety of CLXT disciplines
- Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
- Independent supervision of students
- Demonstrate lab/DI equipment when required
- Assist or perform lab demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support in a variety of CLXT disciplines
- Ensure knowledge of related equipment including use and application
- Assist instructional staff when required ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment
- Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab exercises
Student Support:
- Provide tutorial/remedial support
- Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
- Ensure students are working in a safe condition
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
- Ability to lift 15-30lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours
- Ability to physically perform standard CLXT work
- Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
- A solid working knowledge in clinical setting, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the CLXT field
Qualifications:
- CLXT diploma and current/active membership with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists
- 2-5 years related experience recommended
- Class 5 drivers license, if required
Remuneration: $2,258.56 - $3,012.40 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Instructional Assistant II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
