MOCA Toronto is seeking a Marketing Intern to work closely with the Marketing Manager and Communications Team in assisting in all communications efforts. The intern will gain hands-on experience in museum operations and help expand MOCA’s reach. They may also be required to assist in cross-departmental initiatives. They will have administrative duties in developing and implementing marketing strategies.
The intern will have the opportunity to support the development and implementation of marketing campaigns in 2023 and research and planning for 2024 and beyond. This position will receive direct mentorship from MOCA’s Marketing Manager. This role will allow the intern to gain valuable work experience in a museum while making an important contribution to MOCA’s marketing team. The research and marketing campaign work they conduct will shape future programmes at the museum.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a college or university program in museum studies, art history, marketing, or communication studies with a strong interest in contemporary art and the museum environment. They should have strong planning and organizational abilities as well as experience coordinating and executing artistic programs. They should also possess excellent interpersonal skills and feel comfortable speaking in public. Experience working in a museum, cultural institution, or in the non-profit arts sector is a strong asset.
Responsibilities
- Support the marketing team with planning, implementing and monitoring marketing campaigns
- Support the marketing manager in creating and disseminating compelling marketing materials, social media assets (including video), web and newsletter content and membership cultivation, solicitation, renewal and stewardship materials
- Devise regular communication activities through e-newsletters and emails
- Monitor social media accounts, including creating and scheduling content and responding to messages
- Maintain, update and oversee website operation and content
- Evaluate data and create reports on key metrics in order to monitor campaign efficiency and analyze trends
- Provide administrative and project support for a variety of marketing initiatives
Skills and Qualifications
- College or University graduate from a program in Marketing, Communications, English, Museum Studies or other related field
- Proficiency with basic social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
- Proficiency in MS Office, database management, and good keyboarding skills
- High attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and effectively interface
- A second language is an asset
- Demonstrated research and writing skills and academic literacy
- A strong interest in contemporary art and familiarity of the arts landscape in Toronto
- Good verbal/written communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of staff and publics in a courteous and professional manner
- Service Excellence: Meets or exceeds service standards when interacting with customers in the community and in the organization

Young Canada Works Eligibility
- Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program
- Are currently unemployed or underemployed
- Are a college or university graduate
- Are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program
