Job Description
The Wetaskiwin School Division is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Professional for a fixed-term (1 years) position at Centennial School. As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing psychological assessments and interventions to support our students. Reporting to the Director of Support Services (or designate) and working alongside a supportive team, you will make a significant impact on the well-being of our student community. There is a strong probability this position may continue for another couple of years.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Comprehensive counselling supports, consultations, and treatment services for students.
- Prepare and document psychological assessment reports for students (if accredited to do so).
- Collaborate with professionals outside the school district, such as pediatricians, psychologists, family support agencies, and others, to ensure integrated support for students.
- Engage with the community by establishing relationships with families, attending parent-teacher conferences, and participating in community events.
- Foster collaboration with external professionals and agencies to promote a comprehensive understanding of and support for our students.
- Work collaboratively with the Instruction Services multidisciplinary team.
- Assist staff in developing strategies to support students facing learning, behavioral, emotional, and social difficulties.
- Provide support to parents in crisis, offering guidance and connecting them to relevant resources.
- Offer interpretation, consultation, and feedback on psychological opinions to parents and staff.
- Take responsibility for delivering high-quality clinical services to families and students.
- Collaborate closely with the Admin Team to create formal and informal professional growth opportunities.
- Support teachers by providing in-class assistance for students who are experiencing dysregulation.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings to address attendance concerns, dysregulation, trauma, and emotional/psychological/educational challenges faced by students.
- Supervise students during unstructured times and be available to address concerns during school start and dismissal times.
- Attend School Support Team Meetings to contribute to student support initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating and reporting the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP) to the Calgary Police Youth Foundation (CPYF).
Preference may be given to candidates possessing the following qualifications:
- Registered Psychologist, Masters in Social Work, Teacher Counsellor, or related field and education.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and language.
- Local knowledge of Plains Cree, including language and culture.
- Knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity.
- Experience working collaboratively with school and community agency personnel.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and partnerships with the community.
- Proven ability to develop supportive relationships with children, youth, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as part of an educational team.
- Knowledge and experience using emerging technologies, such as Google Apps for Education and other cloud-based apps, to inform and transform learning.
- Commitment to supporting the Health and Safety Program and completing training within prescribed timeframes.
