Job Description
We are currently seeking part-time experienced Registered Neuro Occupational Therapists, responsible for assessing, treating and remediating individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI). This position is based out of our Etobicoke clinic, which is a group-home setting that provides 24 hour care and programming for clients with ABIs and concurrent physical, mental, behavioural, and/or substance use challenges. You will have the opportunity to develop and implement rehabilitation training programs while working with an interdisciplinary treatment team including but not limited to other Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Addictions Specialists, and more. You will be assisting our clients with functional performance of activities of daily living (ADLs), productivity, leisure, and self-maintenance skills, as well as working with clients who have a dual diagnosis and are minimally conscious - performance in these skill areas are analyzed in terms of their perceptual, cognitive, sensory-motor, physical and socio-cultural components, as per the guidance of the College.
Job Qualification
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters' Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registered and in good standing with College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Experience working with individuals with neurological/movement disorders and/or brain injury in a residential, clinical, community or health care setting
- Preference of at least three years providing Occupational Therapy in the automobile insurance sector
- CPR / First Aid certificate
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certificate
- Covid-19 vaccinations
- Flexibility regarding hours worked including evening, week-ends and morning coverage for home assessments and rehabilitation
The ideal candidate will also possess the following:
- Knowledge and/or experience working with individuals across the rehabilitation spectrum – minimally conscious / total care to mental health issues, dual diagnoses, behavioural issues, chronic pain, and addictions
- Conflict resolution skills and ability to work with clients and team members towards solutions; addressing issues such as verbal aggression, physical and environmental aggression, elopement, socially and sexually inappropriate behaviours
- Coma Stimulation, Mindfulness, DBT and CBT training
- Experience with hospital discharge planning, medical legal report writing and Future Care Cost Assessments
- Willingness to participate and host training sessions
- Willingness to work at various residential locations as well as in the community as needed
- Enjoy dealing with people and working in a fast-paced customer service environment, problem solving through difficult situations
- Strong communication (oral and written) and exceptional interpersonal and decision-making skills
- Ability to handle difficult situations in an objective consistent manner
- Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team
- Ability to stay organized and complete tasks within allocated time frames
- Demonstrated knowledge utilising computer software and proficiency with secure email
- Commitment to continual learning, upgrading and enhancing skills
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provision of direct or consultant services for each client
- Assessment of clients and establishment and ongoing evaluation / revision of treatment programs, including goals and discharge plans
- Participate in and contribute to all aspects of the program including home based rehabilitation, life skills training, functional and community activities
- Maintain current accurate clinical records according to the standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Document assessment results, goals, treatment, client progress, and discharge plans
- Collaborate with other members of the health team as needed
- Communicate pertinent information and recommendations to clients/care providers and providing education regarding treatment strategies as needed
- Observe the performance of those assisting in the Occupational Therapy program and providing guidance as necessary
- Maintain active standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Participate in ongoing internal and/or external education activities
- Adhere to Bayshore ICS Policies and Procedures
- Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company's Quality Management System
- Participate in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties, notifying immediate supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns
- Maintaining confidentiality of client and corporate information and discussing same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel
- Attend meetings including staff meetings, clinical meetings, and client team meetings
- Completing other tasks as requested
