Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. We are looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our Transition Services that provides coordinated access to Continuing Care programs and supports all programs by providing information and access, intake and assessment and transitional support for Continuing Care Edmonton Zone. This position works within a collaborative multidisciplinary team consisting of various healthcare professionals from the nursing and allied health professions. This team collaborates and conducts home or site visits to deliver client-centered services to individuals with a wide variety of physical, cognitive and mental health conditions, including complex health needs. The Therapy Assistant is responsible for the provision of services as assigned by the supervising therapist or manager, working within the required competencies for the role. This includes monitoring the effectiveness of assigned tasks such as assisting with equipment provision to maximize independence (including education and follow up), strengthening and mobility programs, ADL and transfer training, and other activities as directed. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with the broader healthcare team and external organizations.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Communication and assessment skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a fast-paced environment. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs. At the time of interview, you may be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge and proficiency by completing a hands-on assessment. You must demonstrate sufficient typing speed to meet workload demand and navigate through various computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook and Internet.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a Continuing Care setting. Knowledge of Meditech and Connect Care. Palliative Care Experience.
