ABOUT SSCS:
Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is one of BC’s most respected and
established community service organizations. We operate within a large geographic area -
from Pemberton to Britannia Beach - supporting individuals and families living in the Sea to
Sky Corridor. We offer 41 programs and services, including early childhood development,
childcare, affordable housing, outreach, counselling, family support, seniors and youth
services, community living services and respite. We provide a range of services that support
our communities and residents through all ages and stages of their lives. Last year, SSCS
served 6500 individuals and families in our region.
Contribution:
This is a support position for rehabilitation services. Provides direct and indirect client care
activities under the direction of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech
Language Pathologist and/or Recreation Therapist. The job also entails non-child related
activities to support the efficiency of rehabilitation services.
Qualifications:
1. Diploma in a recognized Therapist Assistant program
2. One (1) year related experience
3. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
4. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
5. Valid BC Driver’s License

5. Computer literate.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs tasks and procedures as directed by the Therapist to assist in the provision
of the service. Assists or conducts patient care activities as per service area
requirements such as, but not limited to the following:
Basic ADL’s (dressing, undressing, bathing, grooming, use of adaptive equipment
- Cognitive/perceptual training
- Verbal Communication/ oral functioning
- Individualized activity/exercises (e.g. ROM, stretches, strengthening, ADL’s –
self-care)
- Equipment and adaptations (e.g. mobility aids, wheelchair, dressing, kitchen
aids)
- Mobility (e.g. transfers, ambulation)
2. Under the supervision of the Therapist, provides appropriate patient treatment
interactions (e.g. ensure patient safety, provide cueing, maintain confidentiality,
basic observation of client’s response and behaviour).
3. Recognizes signs and symptoms requiring change in treatment (e.g. side effects,
signs of distress) and ensures that the Therapist is advised of these.
4. Liaises with parents/caregivers to ensure input and participation in the child’s
program. As directed by Therapist, provides assistance to parents/caregivers in
advocating for services that they feel are in the best interest of their child.
5. Assists Therapist with tasks related to the service including: completes
inventory/maintenance checks of the lending library; cleaning, fabricating and
storage of toys and adaptive equipment; stocks child/family education handouts
and pamphlets.
6. Participates in team meetings/case reviews and individual planning sessions for
children as required.
7. Represents Therapy program(s) at community events, health fairs, and educational
opportunities as directed by the Therapist.
8. Maintains records, documentation, and reporting as directed by Therapist and as
outlined in the Program Operating Manual.
9. Participates in training opportunities as directed by Therapist in order to remain
current in the field.
10. Performs other related duties as required.
