In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $58,938 to $66,309. This position has an approximate appointment of 12 months.
Location - North Campus Edmonton.

The SMART Network is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on medical device innovations and health technologies that prevent injury, restore function, and provide advanced technological-based solutions that enhance the well-being of persons with diverse abilities. Members over 300 are internationally renowned for their break through discoveries and innovations. The SMART Network focuses on achieving maximum levels of independence and autonomy for people who experience inequities due to societal barriers. Through its business unit, Smart Technology Innovations (ST Innovations), the SMART Network attracts extensive collaborations with industry and provides services that readily facilitate private-public interactions in the area of health innovations. This in turn positions the University as a critical player in advancing the health and wealth of Albertans.
Position
This position will manage all projects brought in by ST Innovations, the business arm of the SMART Network. The SMART Network is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on medical device innovations and health technologies that prevent injury, restore function, and provide advanced technological-based solutions that enhance the wellbeing of persons with diverse abilities. Through ST Innovations, the SMART Network attracts extensive collaborations with industry and provides a variety of services in the area of health innovations. All aspects of the project from stakeholder assessment to Project Charter, Scope of Work, Budget Management to Reporting will be the responsibility of the project manager.
Duties
Project management (80%)
Works with the Operations Manager, Business Development and Strategy Team and other stakeholder members to plan and implement an appropriate framework for the development of each industry project. This role will:
- Establish the Project Charter for each industry based ST Innovations project. Outline the scope and budget, schedule project meetings, including on-going tracking of expenditures, preparation of monthly progress reports and identification of operational issues
- Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
- Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques
- Report and escalate to management as needed
- Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of multiple projects
- Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
- Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
- In close collaboration with Project PIs, document comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members
- Use and continually develop leadership skills
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Develop spreadsheets, Gantt charts, diagrams and process maps to document needs
- Prepare and make oral and/or written presentations on project activities as required
- Liaise with the business team of the SMART Network, Project PIs and other stakeholder members to plan and implement each project. Maintain and utilize the project management system Jira for all documentation and duties
Administration and Reporting (20%)
- Schedule meetings of the project team, committees, and ad hoc meetings as required
- Take minutes of meetings and provide agenda and summaries of action items
- Prepare progress reports and other project management documents such as Risk Plan, Change Management Plan and Implementation Plan
- Coordinate meetings between PI’s, industry partners, and other stakeholders
- Perform other related duties and admin tasks as necessary
- Recommend options, strategies and proposals regarding budget allocations/reallocations and distribution of resources to support area priorities as it pertains to each industry project. ? Contributes to the creation of an environment where diverse ideas, perspectives and achievements are recognized, rewarded and celebrated.
- Assists in the creation of progress, scientific, financial or final reports for stakeholders, granting agencies or external funders.
- Maintains relationships with external and internal networks and partners
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of undergraduate degree and/or professional designation or has equivalent qualifications and experience
- Proven working experience in project management
- Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Project Management certification or Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification is a plus
- Experience with project management software tool
