Position Overview
The Department of Cardiac Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Director, Investigators and Managers of the Cardiovascular Opportunities Network Epidemiology and Clinical Trials (CON-ECT) Centre.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the principal investigators and the research team with the conduct and coordination of sponsor-initiated and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Success in the role will require close collaboration with clinical investigators, staff, and a multitude of internal and external stakeholders as well as active involvement in all aspects of clinical trial management following procedures and guidelines set by the principal investigator. The tasks to be performed require attention to accuracy.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Coordinate trial activities from study initiation to study closure for multi-site clinical trials
- Data capture and data entry into an established computer database and maintaining optimal data recording practices
- Assist with the preparation of research ethics board documents and maintenance of regulatory documents
- Aid in the collection of data from local subjects under the supervision of the investigator
- Administrative duties including organizing and filing of confidential study records
- Record study visits in the Oncore system to facilitate study related payments.
- Responsible for tracking study progress and outcome adjudication events
- Able to prioritize tasks to comply with research protocol needs
- Flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines and cope with the dynamic nature of clinical research are key
- Other duties are to be determined as position evolves
Qualifications / Requirements:
- University Degree in Health Sciences is preferred
- Basic or intermediate knowledge of statistical principles is an asset
- SOCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) designation or equivalent are an asset
- Minimum of two years of experience in clinical research is required
- Current BCLS certification for healthcare providers is required
- Current GCP certification training is required
- In-depth understanding of a clinical research is required
- Familiarity with IRISS Ethics Board platform is preferred
- Self-motivation and advanced time-management skills are essential
- Intermediate to advanced skills on Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint) required
- Experience with different clinical databases (Netcare, ConnectCare, Approach etc.) is an asset
- Knowledge of electronic data capture (EDC) systems (e.g REDCap) is an asset
- Familiarity with Research Accounting: Invoicing, tracking payments, establishing, and maintaining agreements is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required
- Well-developed communication skills, verbal and written, are required
- Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to details is required
