Manager, Research Operations

D U T I E S
The Manager, Research Operations is responsible for providing operational oversight, financial
reporting and financial management for applied research in Research, Partnerships and
Innovations; acting as the key contact regarding research accounting and administrative matters;
leading various administrative management processes and activities; managing the staff of the
Research Operations section of the department; and engaging in quality and process
improvement activities.
R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S
- Diploma or degree in a related field. Combination of education and experience may be
considered.
- Completion of Research Administration certification. Combination of education and experience
may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management
- Experience within an academic/applied research setting
- Excellent organizational, analytical, research and creative skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Demonstrated effective human resource management skills
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Must have demonstrated skill in the development and management of effective administrative
data collection and reporting systems and processes.
- Effective computer skills
- Knowledge of intellectual property
- Knowledge of capital planning, property management, space planning, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents and organizations
- Must have the ability to act and represent the College in a professional, collegial, collaborative
and entrepreneurial manner
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning
and continuous improvement
A S S E T S
- Formal training and/or certification in Project Management
- Direct experience in a research administration environment with interaction with external
funding agencies
- Familiarity with the Tri-Council granting agencies and their financial administration guidelines
and reporting requirements
