Apply today to join our team!As a Social Worker - Section/Subsection you will:Be responsible for the work/operation of a section/sub-section of the Social Work Department and supervise a staff of up to and including four (4) non-paramedical staff FTE.Be responsible for providing advanced clinical and consultative social work services to clients and families focusing on how the client’s relationships are affected by their environment.Support your team by performing duties including:conducting social and psychosocial assessments,providing individual, family and group counselling services,maintaining client records,attending interdisciplinary clinical/case conferences,identifying applicable community resources for clientsfacilitating care throughout the continuum.About George Pearson CentreGeorge Pearson Centre is home to residents with complex medical and physical conditions, including individuals requiring tracheostomy and ventilator care. The Social Worker at GPC works alongside the team to identify and support the psychosocial needs of residents and their family members for optimal quality of life. A clinical framework including client-centered and trauma informed practice is key, and areas of intervention include psychosocial assessments, advanced care planning, and consent/decision making, as well as regular navigation of the Health Care Consent and Care Facility Admission Act, Adult Guardianship Act and Mental Health Act. There are regular opportunities for preceptorship of social work students. This role is one of several long term care positions within the Vancouver Acute Community of Care, and includes a network of support from the Social Work Professional Practice team and a dynamic Community of Practice.Qualifications:Education & ExperienceMaster’s of Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.Two (2) years’ recent, post Bachelor of Social Work experience in a health care setting including supervisory experience.Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.Bachelor of Social Work degree from an accredited School of Social Work, with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Knowledge & AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to effectively supervise, lead, mentor staff.Broad knowledge of systems thinking related to social work process.Broad knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.Broad knowledge of research methodology.Broad knowledge of counselling skills and clinical practice models.Broad knowledge of family, group and change therapy.Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client.Demonstrated ability to apply systems theory to practice in Social Work assessment and intervention.Demonstrated ability to conduct social and psychosocial assessments.Demonstrated ability to understand and influence group and inter-group processes, decision making and problem solving.Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with clients and families in order to explore issues that are beyond the initial presented concerns.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, team members, other groups and community agency personnel.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for treatment.Intermediate computer literacy with current and applicable software systems.Closing Statement:The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
