Shift Clean Energy is a fast-growing company that designs Energy Storage Solutions primarily in the commercial marine industry. Our team has been involved in the industry since 2009 and is responsible for many industry firsts, including powering Hybrid and Fully Electric Ferries, Offshore Supply Vessels, Global Freight Carriers, Tugboats, Passenger Vessels, and zero-emission land-based grid energy projects.

Responsibilities
Energy Storage Systems are not just a bunch of batteries. We’re designing distributed real-time control systems for our energy management products. Not only does it keep our systems safe and performing, it provides a wealth of data collection and analysis that allows our customers to optimize their operations and manage their maintenance cycles. Software services that help our customers make better use of our systems are a key part of our offering.
- Develop Linux-based embedded software to control our various systems
- Help create a distributed control and management system that ensures safe and efficient operation of the system
- Build data transmission capability to provide notifications and operational data to a cloud-based management centre
- This position is for software design only, although knowledge of electronic and electrical hardware and ability to read schematics are very useful skills
Qualifications Required
- Passionate about building scalable applications that “just work” for the end user
- Expert-level experience with embedded Linux, C, Python, Shell scripting
- Experience with revision control systems, defect tracking systems, etc.
- Appropriate engineering or computer science qualification
- 5+ years experience in embedded software development for industrial products
- Self-starter with an interest in engineering beyond pure software
- Ability and willingness to travel globally
- Nice to haves:
- Experience with energy storage management systems
- Experience with industrial communication protocols
- Experience with on-site commissioning and troubleshooting
- Experience with IOT products and Internet protocols
Position is located in Vancouver, Canada with flexible working hours, possibly including some work from home.
