Position Profile:
The Youth Support Supervisor is a key leadership role that is focused on supporting the most marginalized and vulnerable youth across the Region of Peel. The successful incumbent will lead the day-to-day operations at the shelter with a focus on client-centered and trauma-informed care. The day shifts run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The evening shift runs from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The shifts will rotate on a weekly basis.
As part of the leadership team, the Youth Support Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision to front-line youth workers, volunteers and students.
Role Overview
Responsibilities:
- Build, lead and engage frontline staff by providing support and supervision in line with growth and development.
- Facilitates, contributes, and manages regular program meetings while focusing on deliverable, quality, and continuous improvement.
- A role model in promoting a healthy and safe environment, while maintaining process, procedure and policies for all safety requirements and emergency procedures.
- Assists with recruiting and hiring and performance management of new employees, volunteers, and students focused on talent that will always act in the best interests of the youth in support.
- Oversees monthly scheduling, reviews timesheets before submission and coordinates vacation requests.
- Provides constructive feedback in regular supervision to employees, volunteers and students.
- Implement the HR policies, procedures, and practices of the organization.
- Foster a positive and supportive working environment.
- Responsible and leads the day to day shift organization of the Emergency Youth Shelter, including care management and overall programming for the youth.
- Ensures that the continuity of appropriate admission, service, and discharge procedures are adhered to with the framework of the shelter’s philosophy of reduced barriers (a no-consequence approach to youth support where feasible).
- Participates in the delivery of shift change.
- Ensures the confidentiality of personnel, client and administrative files.
- Other administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Services or in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- 3-4 years of experience along with 1-year supervisory experience working within the social service sector, preferably in a shelter/residential setting or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A leader with excellent communication, presentation, organization and interpersonal skills with a passion for supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized youth in our community.
- Flexibility to work in a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation, while supporting an on-call rotation.
- Knowledge of resources and supports for youth and exposure to Region of Peel resources.
- Experience addressing the needs of homeless clients, including making referrals to community agencies.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License is an asset and access to a vehicle is preferred.
- Valid CPI and/or UMAB and First Aid/ CPR certifications.
- Completion of a successful Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check will be a condition of employment.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to applicable legislation.
- Must be flexible to work at Brampton and/or Mississauga location.
