We are looking for a Research Technical Assistant to assist with footwear and mobility related testing using KITE's WinterLab, RampLab and SatraLab for research studies and industry clients.
Duties
- Recruiting and working with participants, e.g., screening new volunteers, maintaining confidential databases, scheduling testing, managing consent forms, ensuring participant comfort and safety.
- Acting as an observer during human gait trials to quantify when slips occur. Recording slip data, as well as operation of various friction testing equipment as required.
- Analysis and documentation of testing data.
- Receiving new footwear from industry: cleaning, preparation, initial tests and documentation.
- Operation of Tipper, a tilting motion platform (0 to 15 degrees) used for winter footwear testing.
- Operation the RampLab, a tilting motion platform (0 to 30 degrees) used for indoor footwear testing.
- Conditioning the ice in WinterLab, conditioning the floor surface of RampLab and assisting with the descent control device during ramp testing. Please note that these are physical tasks that will require endurance/effort.
- Maintaining the laboratories and testing equipment in peak condition in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensuring superior cleaning and disinfection practices for all participant equipment and the work area and facility. Booking and preparing labs prior to footwear testing according to SOPs.
- Updating the Rate My Treads website based on the footwear test analysis and responding to Rate My Treads email queries. Regular review of the website to ensure information is kept up to date.
- Support and assist the team of researchers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This position will be 100% on site.
Qualifications
- At minimum a Community College degree, BSc or Engineering degree preferred
- A minimum of 3 months related technical experience
- 3 months of research experience preferred
- Core competency in verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail and well-organized
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
