This client delivers services that impact the lives of Ontarians through in-depth current affairs journalism, documentaries and learning-focused digital content. The Manager, Web and Mobile Development, will lead a dynamic team of software developers in implementing and supporting their web and mobile applications. Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the quality of the product, from choice of technology stack to architectural design to code structure to end-user experience
- Ensure team is engaged in development best practices like version control, code reviews, accessibility compliance, etc.
- Set high engineering standards and drive team adoption of emerging tech, advanced tools and processes for improved quality, efficiency, and consistency across the applications.
- Create a culture that enables Agile - recognize what’s working well and what’s not working, coach and empower the teams, help remove impediments and other responsibilities of an agile leader.
- Be invested in the development of your direct reports - coaching, mentoring, 1:1 feedback meetings, improving skill-sets, supporting career goals - guide your developers to bring innovation and greatness to the table: ideas, tech, code and culture. Be their cheer leader and drive employee engagement.
- Build and grow your best-in-class, high performance tech teams, driving the hiring process, interviewing, and onboarding new members.
- Stay tuned-in to the latest technology and digital development landscape, especially related to digital education and media industry trends.
- Partner with key stakeholders like Product Managers and UX/Design Managers to ensure that development activities support the TVO mandate and strategic direction.
- Facilitate clear communication and provide context, direction and motivation to the development team.
What you will bring to TVO:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience in all aspects of software engineering, including coding, architecture and systems design
- 3+ years leading full-stack development teams of 10 or more engineers in an agile environment.
- Experience leading software design and programming in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, C/C++, Ruby, Python, or JavaScript.
- Experience creating web interfaces and services for large public-facing websites with extensive knowledge of web technologies - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap and frameworks such as ReactJS, AngularJS, etc., RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Apollo.
- Strong knowledge of leading Content Management Systems (CMS) and Experience Management platforms such as Contentful, OpenText TeamSite, Adobe AEM, Drupal Contenta, etc.
- Experience with SEO, cross-browser compatibility, web accessibility and AODA compliance
- Experience with automated deployment, continuous integration, and release engineering
- Experience with Cloud, ideally Amazon Web services (AWS)
- Experience developing solutions related to Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning(ML) is an asset
- Solid understanding of design and architecture principles (n-tier, microservices, etc)
- Strong computer science fundamentals in object-oriented development, data structures, algorithms and system design
- Strong technical thinking and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
