About the Role:
The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for providing support to the Director of Finance in the day-to-day accounting function and acts as the back-up to the Director when absent.
Overall responsibility includes monthly preparation of financial statements and government reports and working directly with the Director to ensure internal control measures and ministry policies are adhered to. This will include reviewing current processes and developing or enhancing processes, policies and procedures.
Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Intermediate Accountant will be ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks to include but not limited to:
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of monthly financial statements and government reports
- Supports audit requests by governmental funding agencies
- Ensures that the agency cost allocation plan is incorporated into the monitoring of grants and contracts
- Oversees bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations to include Foundation Donor List
- Prepares quarterly and annual information for Federal and Provincial governments (HST, WSIB, Tax returns)
- Works closely with the Director to review, prepare, and finalize the annual budget
- Support the Director in annual preparation of audit to include preparing working papers and providing information as requested
- Assist with reporting to Funders as required
- Responsible for preparing monthly closing entries, e.g. deferred revenue, allocation entries
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities, reconciliations, reporting, government remittances, etc.
- Anticipate and manage issues proactively and an ability to work under defined timelines
- Ensures accounts receivable and payable activities are performed accurately and timely
- Prepares reporting documents to government funders, ensuring the timely submission of all vouchers and related compliance reports
- Acts as the key point of contact in the Directors absence.
Successful candidates will bring the following:
- Completion of University degree in a relevant area
- A minimum of 4 years related work experience
- CPA designation (actively enrolled in)
- Must have demonstrated proficiency in Sage 300 – all modules
- Strong background in audit, internal controls and working in a public sector/Ministry funded organization
- Demonstrated analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts
- Intermediate accountant duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time/tasks effectively
- Self-started that take initiative and able to work with a high degree of independence utilizing tact and good judgement
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and MS Outlook)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Superior problem solving and judgement skills
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Autism, PDD and other developmental disorders an asset
- Satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
- Able to work remotely (dedicated workspace at home)
