Short Description of the Position:
To ensure the success of the Early Childhood Department, the Early Childhood Administrative Coordinator (ECAC) will work with the Director of Early Childhood Education (DECE) and the Assistant Director of Early Childhood Education (ADECE) to ensure that early childhood programs run effectively. The Libbie Cowan Childcare Centre and the Thomas & Marjorie Schwartz Preschool Centre are programs of excellence for children from 18 months through Junior Kindergarten. With a strong focus on inclusion and informed by ELECT, How Does Learning Happen and the JCCA Sheva framework, the ECAC will collaborate with educators to provide developmentally appropriate programming for the children in our program.
Schedule:
- 37.5 hours per week, Full Time, Year-Round.
- Due to the hours of operation of the LCCC and the TMSPC, the ECAC must be available to work a variety of different shifts between 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional evenings will be required to attend staff meetings and other professional development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
- Ensuring TMSPC and LCCC children’s and staff files are up to date in accordance with the Ministry of Education and the City of Toronto.
- May need to assist Camp and After-school Managers as needed.
- Attending necessary building meetings.
- Assist with checking the weekly classroom newsletters.
- Assist in coordinating special events –including open houses, Family Shabbat, etc.
- Assist in coordinating fund-raisers – including Scholastic book orders, etc.
- Preparing all necessary packages for parents and assisting the ADECE in preparing staff onboarding packages.
- Being a contact for ECE parents and teachers, conducting tours and communicate regularly with families on center events and happenings, along with progress on their child’s development if needed.
- Creating a warm, friendly, helpful, and nurturing environment for parents, students, and staff.
- Submit work orders for any maintenance issues.
- Conduct playground inspections as needed. (daily, monthly, annually)
- Conduct preschool/JK and toddler monthly fire drills and ensure first aid kits are maintained.
- Attending ECE staff meetings (after hours) and take attendance and minutes.
- Participate in ECE professional development days (May be after hours or on weekends
- Office administration, including ordering supplies, maintaining allergy list, daily attendance and class lists, processing registrations, etc., in addition to other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to allotted budget restrictions and ensure fiscal management by being familiar with the ECE Department budget.
Staff /In-class Support
- Responsible for ensuring classroom ratios are met daily by being the point of contact for staff when calling in sick and finding suitable replacements for classroom shifts (will defer to ADECE for staff vacation and days off requested in advance)
- Step in to cover an absent staff (classroom or in kitchen) when required.
- Support preschool swim with the possibility of being in the pool.
- In collaboration with the DECE and the ADECE, working with classes to incorporate Reggio/Loose parts, Sheva Framework, ELECT and HDLH?
- Help support programming to enhance the cultural, educational, physical, mental, and social well-being of children registered in our toddler, preschool and JK programs.
- Liaising with outside resources, when necessary, i.e., speech, occupational therapists, etc.
- In collaboration with DECE and ADECE, sharing reports from outside resources with staff and assisting educators in carrying out goals set for children.
- Training of staff, assisting teachers with program planning and ensuring classrooms meet or exceed licensing requirements in collaboration with DECE and ADECE.
- Assisting the classroom educators with any routines or needs of children, when necessary, i.e., diapering, rest periods, transitions, etc. and lifting of young children when necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum 2 – 5 years of experience working in an early childhood setting.
- Clear/no relevant information from a VSS check/Criminal Reference Check.
- Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc
- Current RECE and member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario or currently registered in an accredited ECE program leading to a RECE.
- Must be up to date on all required immunizations including valid TB test.
- Current Standard First Aid- level C with CPR and AED certification.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and be flexible.
- Must be a team player and be able to effectively collaborate with DECE and the ADECE as well as other MNjcc staff.
- Strong administrative skills, including proficiency with Outlook, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, accounting admin and software.
- Excellent command of English language both oral and written
- Some knowledge of Jewish holidays and programming or willing to learn.
Salary and Benefits:
- $45,000 to $48,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications plus, Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant when eligible.
