Cultural Liaison Worker
Position Commences for the 2023-2024 School Year
Medicine Hat Public School Division invites applications for the position of Cultural Liaison Worker. As a member of the Student Services team, the Cultural Liaison Worker will serve as a system navigator and will work closely with school-based teams to effectively communicate with, connect, and establish collaborative relationships with families and students. The Cultural Liaison Worker will provide professional learning to promote cultural competence and inclusive school learning environments for student success.
The hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8-4 pm; however, flexibility to work outside regular hours is a requirement. This role is a 10-month contract. The Cultural Liaison Worker will be required to have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
The key responsibilities of the Cultural Liaison Worker include, but not limited to:
- When requested, support the student registration intake process, and provide a consistent point of contact for families and students moving forward.
- Facilitate the relationship between the home and school environment for students and families.
- Identify and share resources with families to enhance access to school and community supports.
- Maintain and build connections with appropriate community agencies to effectively serve as a system navigator.
- Be a visible and supportive member of the school community.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings, such as school staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Programming Team Meetings.
- Attend, as needed, Case Conference Meetings and other parent meetings.
- Provide professional learning to further develop cultural competence and the system goals to ensure inclusive and respectful learning environments.
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education or relevant training in the health or social sciences.
- Fluency in an additional language, such as Arabic, would be considered an asset.
- Organization, strong teamwork skills, the ability to prioritize multiple demands, excellent interpersonal skills, time management, flexibility, and initiative.
- Proven cultural competencies and the ability to apply these competencies to all aspects of the job.
- Knowledgeable about current community supports and resources, as well as how to navigate those systems.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
