Director, Finance - Canadian P&C Operation is responsible for external financial reporting and regulatory filings of the Canadian P&C Operation and all Company pension financial statements. Ensuring alignment with Enterprise modernization initiatives, this person supports the operational decision-making of the Canadian P&C business leaders with business intelligence acquired through the interpretation and analysis of financial data.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the Canadian P&C financial reporting process using International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to support the Canadian P&C leadership team while providing support to and ensuring alignment with Enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Ensure that the financial results of the Company’s distribution organizations are properly reflected in Canadian P&C financial reporting.
- Lead the financial reporting process for the Company's pension plans.
- Support Canadian P&C operational decision-making with business intelligence acquired through the interpretation and analysis of financial data.
- Monitor financial and business risks to ensure the Canadian P&C operating company is staying within risk appetite limits.
- Oversee the preparation of account reconciliations and disposal of reconciling items in a timing manner.
- Provide general financial advice to the Canadian P&C operating company business leaders on business initiatives that aligns with Enterprise expectations.
- Coordinate the Canadian P&C external financial reporting process to support enterprise consolidation and reporting, including meaningful interpretation of financial results.
- Oversee the compilation of Canadian P&C regulatory reports and surveys.
- Be a change ambassador that will coach and develop the regional P&C finance teams
- Ensure that financial systems and reporting mechanisms are consistent and fully deployed to meet enterprise reporting deadlines.
- Ensure effective financial controls, processes and policies are in place throughout the Canadian P&C operations and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures supporting the Enterprise focus on removing manual controls and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Eight years of post-qualifying accounting experience, with three years in a leadership role
- Post Secondary degree and professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
- Public accounting or previous financial services industry experience required
- Competent knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
- Strong MS Office skills and experience with of one of SAP/Oracle/PeopleSoft or similar advanced general ledger software systems.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility and confidence from others.
- Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high pressure situations
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive plans and solutions that bridge complex issues that span across time
- Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner
- Treats others with respect and courtesy and shares thoughts and ideas with the rest of the team.
- Strong negotiation skills by presenting information or arguments in a convincing manner and by focusing on what is important.
- High level of initiative.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
