Position Description
Reporting to the Program Manager, the FASD Cultural Support Worker will provide support to the Children & Youth Development Services team and clients. The FASD Cultural Support Worker shall promote awareness of and access to traditional health care options for all clients and their families. The FASD Cultural Support Worker shall ensure all aspects of the program are being carried out through a cultural lens.

Department: Niigaanning Bimaadizwin Child and Youth Development Services Program
Term: Full-time Permanent
Location: 820 Lakeview Dr, Kenora ON P9N 3P7
Reports to: Child and Youth Development Services Assessment Manager
Responsibilities
- To provide support to children and families of those going through the FASD Assessment Process
- Provide support to the team by assisting clinicians throughout the assessment process (i.e., providing translation services, explaining culturally specific behaviors, providing information regarding community histories; intermediary between the family and clinicians; assisting clients complete questionnaires
- Provide mentoring and cultural teachings directly with clients and/or their families through the use of traditional approaches
- To provide cultural support to the FASD clinical team and resources
- Presenting information regarding the cultural aspects of the program through presentations and workshops;
- Serve as a cultural resource person to the team, clients and families
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- College diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution – Health Services field or minimum of grade 12 with equivalent work experience
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Possess a valid driver’s license/insurance, have a vehicle and be willing to travel to all Treaty 3 First Nation Communities as per program needs
- Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search
