Job Summary
The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for supporting the Director of ReStore & Community Engagement to coordinate and implement the community engagement program and to spearhead the fund development program with the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region (HKLR).
The position will oversee:
- shared management of the volunteer support program, including recruiting, scheduling, recognizing and retaining volunteers for all of HKLR’s operation
- general community engagement and outreach
- support all future homeowners in the completion of their sweat equity and the successful move through Habitat’s housing program
- the coordination and management for the planning, implementation and evaluation of Habitat’s fund development strategies, creating strategies to secure corporate and individual donations as well as other sources of revenue
- Ongoing management and stewardship of donors is integral to the role.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Develop and manage communication strategies to keep volunteers updated on scheduling of volunteer opportunities;
- Oversee the implementation of volunteer training and orientation to support all operational areas of construction, administration and the ReStore;
- Create and implement a volunteer management plan covering recruitment, retention and recognition, providing appealing volunteer opportunities;
- Recruit, schedule, and provide orientation for teams of volunteers who will be participating in Habitat activities;
- Ensure that volunteer inquiries are addressed in a timely manner;
- Support people accepted into the housing program in the completion of their sweat equity hours through their transition to becoming homeowners;
- Work with the Construction Site Supervisor to ensure a strong and welcoming volunteer program on all project sites;
- Annually assess effectiveness of volunteer program through feedback gathered from volunteers and staff;
- Collaborate with other community organizations, committees and groups that could help with the management and recruitment of volunteers or families;
- Engage the community in Habitat’s work, seeking creative and inviting ways to involve community volunteers from all sectors, in turn.
- Work to ensure that Habitat has a presence in the local community through an effective community engagement plan.
Fund Development
- In conjunction with the CEO, develop and implement an annual fund development strategy to generate revenue required to support Habitat Kingston’s programs;
- Identify and pursue corporate and foundation revenue opportunities, as required;
- Support the CEO to prepare and submit proposals to foundations and grant opportunities;
- Develop and oversee the implementation of an individual giving program that includes direct asks, a monthly giving program, and a legacy giving program;
- Support the CEO in the engagement the Board of Directors and other volunteers in fundraising activities;
- Create and manage the implementation of an effective recognition and stewardship program for all donors;
- Establish an acquisition plan to cultivate new donors;
- Manage the annual budget associated with department related costs;
Administration
- Oversee the use of HKLR’s volunteer database and ensure that volunteer events are posted and kept up to date;
- Ensure that the appropriate data is tracked in the volunteer database including volunteer hours and volunteer information in database;
- Support the CEO with the completion and submission of reports for successful fund development grants;
- Oversee the management of the donor database including implementing the records management plan for all HFHN donors and partners;
- Submit written activity reports monthly to the Executive Director;
- Other duties, as assigned; and
- Be flexible Work week will require flexibility of schedule as some activities occur in the evening or on weekends.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communicator – oral and written;
- Outgoing, vibrant and a real go-getter;
- Proven ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Post-secondary education in a related field
- Sound computer skills – MS Office proficiency, SharePoint and ability to learn new programs quickly
- Experience working with volunteers and engaging people in group activities;
- Knowledge of best practices in sponsorship, fundraising and corporate partnerships;
- Strong organizational skills with experience in administration;
- Ability to think strategically, multi-task and consistently meet deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours – some evenings and weekends; and
- Access to a reliable vehicle, G licence and clean abstract;
- Travel off site to potential donors and to make presentations where and when required
- Access to a vehicle, valid Ontario Driver’s Licence with clean abstract
- Related background check(s) as required
- Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and representing the organization within the community.
