Fraserside Community Services Society invites applications for the following position:
Job Title: COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER
Program: COMMUNITY INCLUSION – COMMUNITY LIVING
Classification: Standard Grid Level 10 – Community Support Worker
Rate of Pay: $27.29 per hour; increments as per the Collective Agreement
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Support Worker supports clients with developmental disabilities in community based activities; works with all
clients and the team and implement individual and group planning, training and support; develops program and community
activities based on individual's choices, interests and abilities; provides client supervision and support, and daily living, social, life
and work skills training to promote skill development, community participation and integration; participates and assists team
members in the ongoing development and operation of the program, including developing curriculum and facilitating client
workshops, and planning structured client activities; carries out assignments with client(s) following set protocols and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Diploma in the human services field and at least one year recent experience working with people
who have developmental disabilities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.- Responsiveness and sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities (in a group or 1:1 setting), strong
community living values and organizational skills are a must.• Demonstrated strong knowledge/training in behavior approach and experience working with individualshaving challenging behaviors, mobility impairments and alternate communication systems.
- Appropriate role modelling and willingness to participate in diverse daily activities (community, recreational,
vocational, employment, daily living, one to one, etc.) and work with a broad range of individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training and community inclusion
programs for clients.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to working effectively with diverse populations
- Skill in developing, implementing, monitoring and documenting individual service plans and training plans.
- Ability to work well in unsupervised setting, adhere to check in procedures and follow “working alone” policies
- Valid First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification; Mandt System Training an asset.
- Candidate should be flexible and willing to work within the Community Inclusion Department where needed.
This includes Community-based services that may require travel within the areas of New Westminster, Tri-
cities and Burnaby.
- Class 4 Restricted BC Driver’s License required (or to be obtained within 3 month probationary period)
Class 5 with reliable personal vehicle with business insurance and $3,000,000 third party legal liability
insurance required; clean abstract- Medical certificate of health and immunization record, including Covid 19 Vaccinations
- Working knowledge of Windows operating system and MS Word; familiarity with an electronic case
management system is preferred.
- Successful Criminal Record Check.
HOURS OF WORK: This is a casual/on call position. This position works 1:1 with an individual.
